I Heart Dallas Realtors: MetroTex Young Professionals Bring Holiday Cheer to Jubilee Center in Fair Park

ypnjubilee13Do you know what the Jubilee Community Center is? The Jubilee Park & Community Center was founded in 1997 when a group of caring people figured out that families and children had no place to safely congregate in the South Dallas/Fair Park neighborhood. The mission of “Jubilee Park” is to improve the quality of life of families and kiddos living in the 62-block community bounded by I-30, Fair Park and East Grand. Every day, 100 K-8th grade children come to the Jubilee Center for an after school program in a safe environment where they can learn, laugh and play together.

Whoa there. Did you say Fair Park? Not Uptown, Lakewood or Park Cities/Preston Hollow? Why ever would we find a group of 35 hot shot Realtors in freakin’ FAIR PARK?

Because a group of them, the young DFW REALTORS® in particular, want to make the holidays special for Dallas youth. So 35 members of the MetroTex Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network (YPN) gathered on November 21st to decorate the Jubilee Community Center for the holidays. YPN members even bought and donated Christmas trees, supplies and their time to turn the community center in to a veritable winter wonderland for the 100+ children who attend after school programs there.

This year marks the fourth year that YPN has been involved with The Jubilee Center.

And even more, MetroTex YPN also supports the Jubilee Center through their annual holiday party, asking for a $10+ donation or an unwrapped toy as the price of admittance to what has become their biggest party of the year. Last year 150 wild and crazy party animals collected more than 80 toys and $841. Those funds and gifts provided Christmas presents for hundreds of children whose families aren’t able to pile gift after gift under the tree for their children for the holidays.

Often, these kids don’t even have a tree at home.

“As a group of young, entrepreneurial real estate professionals, we want to give back to the city that drives our industry,” said John Thompson, MetroTex’s 2013 chairperson and an agent with David Perry-Miller & Associates, “The Jubilee Center has allowed us the opportunity over the past four years to help give the children of East Dallas the happy holiday season they deserve, regardless of their family’s financial situation.”

In fact, MetroTex YPN’s work with The Jubilee Center contributed to the chapter being awarded NAR’s 2012 Large Network of the Year Award. The chapter’s commitment to the Jubilee Center has only grown since the award, with more decorating volunteers this year than ever before plus an increased effort to recruit even more holiday merrimakers in order to increase the gift donations for Jubilee children.

So. This year’s MetroTex YPN holiday party will be held at The Dram on Henderson Avenue on Thursday, December 5th from 7-9 p.m. and is open to any REALTOR®. This year’s party is expected to be the hottest event yet and will include door prizes, a red carpet, DJ, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a special appearance by Santa to collect the toys for The Jubilee Center. The Who’s Who of the hot, young and dynamic Dallas real estate industry will be out in full force to celebrate a great year in D/FW real estate AND collect toys for the children of The Jubilee Community Center to make sure EVERYONE in this town has a happy holiday!
