Fans of Frank Lloyd Wright will fall in love with this exceptional, thoughtfully designed contemporary that captures the most alluring elements of the natural environment and translates them into a structure that harmonizes with its surroundings. That’s what Janelle Alcantara feels about this gorgeous home designed by architect Doug Guiling of GAIA Texas. The stunning estate, set on a beautiful creekside lot, is not only beautiful on the outside, but it’s functional throughout.

It was love at first sight for us with this High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. And truly, this house has everything you could ever want wrapped in bold lines, bountiful natural light, and top-of-the-line finishes. And it lives just as good as it looks, too.

“This house is so different from the formula that other builders use,” Alcantara said. “Other builders design houses with as many large, open spaces as possible.  This typically means there is a “wow” factor when you open the front door. However, with that comes little regard for how people actually live in a house. Often, the ability to furnish a house, with proper seating arrangements, lighting, and viewing angles of the TV are sacrificed along with the lack of privacy that occurs when the whole house is visible from the front yard.”

This contemporary in Hockaday Square offers bright interiors without sacrificing privacy from the curb.

Huge news for the Dallas luxury real estate market! The “White House of Dallas” has long been one of our luxury listings to watch. “We put the house on the market last summer and had quite a bit of interest,” says Becky Gruber. “The buyer saw it online and flew into town to see it in February. It went under contract shortly thereafter.”

The home has quite the lineage, as we’ve spilled before. Here’s what Candy had to say about the home back in 2014:

Strait Lane

The estate at 10620 Strait Ln. is one of three currently represented by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate on this stories, exclusive street.

Strait Lane is one of the most fabulous and famous streets in Dallas. It’s home to a veritable Who’s Who of residents, from Margot and Ross Perot to Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki. They live in some of the city’s most impressive and esteemed estates. Buy a home on Strait Lane and not only have you arrived, you’ve probably arrived in a Learjet.

I’ve found three extraordinary Strait Lane residences represented by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate. They’re within a half mile of each other on the most exclusive stretch of the street in Old Preston Hollow.

Conveniently located only 15 minutes from downtown Dallas, this close-in arrangement is why some of the city’s most distinguished residents make Strait Lane their chosen address.

“Some of Dallas’ top-rated private schools, shopping, and dining are within minutes of Strait Lane and it has estates ranging from 1 to 25 acres — you have a country-like setting in this location,” said Realtor Ryan Streiff with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate. “The homes are deeply set back and those on the east side have beautiful creek views. There’s also an off-duty Dallas police officer patrolling these gated properties, offering a very secure setting.”

The gracious estates along Strait Lane invite a certain mystery. Set back from the road with ample acreage, these properties are some of the most exclusive — and luxurious — in Dallas.

Today, I’d like to tell you about one that truly impresses. Calleja Way is a winding cul-de-sac with one property, at its end – 4949 Calleja Way. This uniquely private property shows only its tall and ornate gates and stone herringbone-patterned curving drive over a bridge, to those wanting a peek. Once through the gates, magnificent views emerge as the impressive front elevation of an elegant home appears, gracefully framed by a beautiful fountain and many large mature trees.

Nestled into Bachman Creek with lush landscaping, this breathtaking, yet unostentatious, home reflects a serene, enchanting aesthetic. It was designed by Larry E. Boerder Architects and built by Cy Barcus as a custom home for the present owners in 1999. Every amenity and comfort you could ever want, and newer Smart Home features, are encompassed in a highly accessible design and layout.

“People are searching for more authenticity in all things, and this house exudes fine quality throughout without being at all pretentious — it’s a house for our times,” said listing agent C C Allen with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate. “The degree of integration and design that’s present inside the house and out — it’s absolutely flawless.”

With six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, two half baths, six living areas, five dining areas, and 12,234 square feet in three stories, including the attached quarters with its own laundry, kitchen, and exterior access, there’s no shortage of space. But it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly large or “too much” in any way. In fact, this house feels perfectly right-sized.

“The rooms are elegantly proportioned and cohesive with a seamless design plan,” Allen said. “An elevator to all three floors means all spaces in the home are easily accessible, as well.”

Seeing is believing with this Strait Lane home — let’s take a tour.

Strait Lane has long been home to the largest most impressive estates in Dallas and a veritable Who’s Who has claimed residency here at one time or another. Luminaries like Nancy Dedman, Phil Romano, Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki, Robert and Laura Wilson – yes the parents of Owen, Luke, and Andrew –Lisa and Kenny Troutt, John and Ann McReynolds, Brint Ryan, Norm and Kelly Green, Ralph Oats, Mehrdad Moayedi, Naomi Aberly and Larry Lebowitz at 10210 Strait Lane, and, of course, Margot and Ross Perot have all called, or now call Strait Lane “home.”

Of course, this is also the street holding the beautiful home of Dr. Richard Malouf and his beautiful wife, Leanne, and their water park.

It is the dream of every world-class architect to design a home here. Philip Johnson, Bud Oglesby, and Cole Smith all built iconic mansions here, some of which are sadly no longer standing, but a new generation of architects continue to create lavish estates. Owning a home on Strait Lane means not only have you have seriously arrived, you arrived in a G5 jet.

PS: There is also a Strait Lane in Flower Mound.

Now if you have the money honey — just a cool $17.5 mil — we’ve found the house of your dreams. It was on the market for a bit last year when Candy toured it. (She says she was so blown away she lost her notes, dropped them along with her fingernail file.)

The house is simply stunning and hello, this is not Dallas right here at 1062 Strait Lane. This is the Wine Country under a Tuscan sun.

10300 Strait Lane ext

Comes word that the tear down of the Bud Oglesby home at 10300 Strait came sooner rather than later.

In fact, she is gone, her body laid to a fitful rest somewhere in Lewisville …

Alan Peppard (heart heart) breaks the news on this one: the architecturally significant home of  Naomi Aberly and Larry Lebowitz at 10210 Strait Lane hits the market this week.  This is the home that the New York Times has called a “mega-version of the Lake Pavilion that Johnson designed on the grounds of his Glass House in New Canaan, Ct.” You may know it as the house with arches, east side of the street closer to Walnut Hill Lane, a huge white contemporary. Alan says it has hosted President Obama not once, but twice. The estate is listed for $27.5 million with David Nichols of the Mathews-Nichols group at Allie Beth Allman and Associates. I will be bringing photos your way as soon as they go live in MLS. Trust me, you will want to see the interiors — here’s what Alan says: “Between 2002 and 2008, Aberly and Lebowitz meticulously restored and modernized the house including a complete re-landscaping of the 6.45 acres by the Massachusetts firm of Reed Hilderbrand. The Dallas architectural firm of Bodron+Fruit did the renovation and designed the pavilion for the new swimming pool.” I’m getting chills already! (more…)

10777 Strait Lane extWell, kind of. I didn’t have time to get you the background dirt circa early ’80s on the breathtaking Oats home at the southwest corner of Strait and Royal — you know, this week’s $19.5 million Monday Morning Millionaire. I was busy getting ready to head to San Francisco for Connect.

Thankfully, Alan Peppard took the ball and ran with it. So I will let him bring you the details on how John Post, son of insurance honcho Troy Post, bought the original home on the lot for $3 million and then tore it down. In fact, I remember when this home was torn down as I drove by it nearly every day (carpool). I knew the home was huge (19,000 square feet) and that it was torn down by the buyer almost as soon as he bought it. We were just incredulous! Tear downs were reserved back then for really messed up homes.

Dallas was sure a blast in the ’80s.

Also, Alan says “nearby Strait Lane neighbors include Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki and their baby daughter; Margot and Ross Perot; and Kentucky Derby-winning horse breeders Lisa and Kenny Troutt.” Yes, but let’s not forget Mehrdad Moayedi, who just snapped up Phil Romano’s house and is doing a ton of work on it even as we speak.
