A Fairmount Craftsman With a Historic Exterior Holds Modern Amenities Inside

Built in 1912 but certainly updated since then, this home stuns in the Fairmount neighborhood. (photo: Norman & Young)

What were you doing in 1912?

We’ve done this exercise a few times in Tarrant County Tuesday, haven’t we? Just like the previous times, I would imagine very few of us were doing anything in 1912. That would make us at least 110 years old, wouldn’t it?

For being 110 years old, today’s Tarrant County Tuesday home looks pretty good. While historic neighborhood requirements and restrictions have kept the exterior of this beyond-centenarian home looking youthful, the interior has been updated and looks open, fresh, and stylish.

Don’t you hope to look this good when you turn 110 years old?

Located on the corner of West Arlington Avenue and 6th Avenue in Fairmount, 1944 6th Avenue is a traditional Craftsman home of 2,281 square feet with three bedrooms and two-and-one-half baths. Of course, being an authentic Craftsman home, the deep and inviting porch welcomes all comers It is the ideal spot for an early morning cup of coffee or an end-of-the-day Pinot Noir.

Inside, the home is quite different from the exterior. Various updating projects over the years have made the home more suitable for life in the 21st century.

There’s a casual family room off the kitchen and a dry bar area.

There is plenty of room to enjoy this home — whether in the formal living area or the comfy family room. The kitchen might have one of the longest contiguous granite counters in Tarrant County. This is not your 1912-inspired kitchen, that’s for sure!

I’m betting in 1912 they didn’t have kitchen counters like this one.

The primary suite is large and filled with glorious windows to allow for natural light to pour into the room.

Curtains will be necessary for the primary suite, but worth it!

Garage Apartment

Remember watching episodes of Happy Days and how awesome The Fonz was living in the Cunningham’s garage apartment? I was so jealous because he got to hang out in the big house but had his own space just steps away … plus he could water ski and jump sharks while wearing a leather jacket.

A small apartment and new garage are recent additions to 1944 6th Avenue

These days very few properties allow for garage apartments or detached residential structures. It’s a shame because the garage apartment can not only be great for the tenant but for the main residents as well.

Plus, 1944 6th Avenue has a newer garage (rare in Fairmount) and garage apartment that The Fonz would envy. What a great opportunity not only to have a classic and updated main home with plenty of amenities but to also invite another person to live on your property and benefit from living in a great neighborhood.

The garage apartment is a great place to live, laugh, and love.

Chelsie Synatschk (if you can pronounce her name on your first try she’ll give you $100 … trust me) of Fort Worth Focused Real Estate has listed 1944 6th Avenue for $550,000.
