The 4 Funniest Home Inspection Finds of 2025

First, a disclaimer: lest anyone think that home inspectors are sitting around laughing at them and their homes, these are licensed professionals who take their jobs very seriously. I, however, am not a licensed professional, and I find the silly things we do in our homes endlessly humorous. Sharing these foibles along with some home inspection advice is, after all, what we do here at Upon Closer Inspection.
Looking back at 2025, I found lots of fun moments worth revisiting. Here are four that made me LOL:
Crazy Lights
There’s always that part of the inspection where the inspector determines whether all the switches work and what they do. This particular switch’s potential for pranks makes me laugh every time I see it.

If You Can’t Stand the Heat …
Both the situation and the video itself crack me up. The stove is just … on fire??? And he’s like, “Lemme make a quick video and get this put out!” LOL

We’ve Seen Stranger Things …

Remember that time our inspector encountered a scene from the Upside Down in a crawl space? If you don’t get the reference, you’re probably not a fan of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Either way, you don’t want this growing under your house.

That’s Not How That Works
It’s funny because it’s true! We all have those people in our lives who never read the instructions. They just put the thing together on their own. When it comes to equipment like a water heater, though, it’s all fun and games until someone gets blown up. Inserting the TPR valve back into the system like that can cause it to BLOW! Yikes.

Somebody once said, “If you can’t laugh at yourself, call me, I’ll do it for you.” Laughing at our mistakes reminds us that we all make them and that we can all learn from them. I hope you keep laughing this holiday season, and may your New Year be filled with good humor and much joy.
