After 550 Inwood Homes of the Week, Here’s What Still Gets Our Attention

For more than 13 years, CandysDirt.com and Inwood National Bank have teamed up on Inwood Home of the Week. More than 550 houses later, we’ve featured just about every type of North Texas property imaginable — high-rises, historic homes, lake retreats, sprawling estates, and historic statement homes. So what is Inwood Home of the Week material? There’s no formula, exactly, but a few things consistently get our attention.
Location. Location. Location.
Yes, many agents will tell you a home’s top attribute is often its address. Sometimes the property around the house is the story. In fact, some of the best homes we’ve explored have even more to offer on the outside than the interior.
Take this East Texas escape in Palestine, for example. Set on a private pond and framed in pine trees, the home itself was almost the icing on the cake. When Vanessa Griffin and Emily White with The Agency sent us this lead, we had to explore the full perimeter. After seeing the mature mimosa trees, piney-woods pathways, and spring-fed swimming holes, the setting became as important to the story as the house itself.
Construction With a Story Behind It
It isn’t hard to find a home here with one-of-a-kind construction. Builders who think outside the box and design with backstories are sure to catch our attention. Sure, we love a contemporary with clean lines, but a custom build always gets more interesting when there’s a reason it looks the way it does.
One of the best examples was brought to us by agent Jenny Capritta with RE/MAX DFW Associates. When she pitched this “Tex-Zen” Craftsman built with reclaimed materials and accented with Mackintosh Rose stained glass, we fell hard.

Let’s face it, sometimes it’s too hot to step outside or so sweltering that all you can do is swim. This is when pools, game rooms, and home theaters can really make a difference. And while many homes feature interesting extras, floor plans that put fun over function are always a favorite.
Sometimes a house simply has something we haven’t seen before — or takes a familiar amenity much further than expected. Last year, Ben Wegman with Rogers Healy and Associates showed us a Parker retreat with a moody wine lounge, professional cinema, poolscape paradise, and comprehensive outdoor kitchen. To this day, we wonder if its new owners have ever left home since closing.
