This Steampunk Cali Home Will Scare the Dickens Out of You

A couple of years back the Gusman and I invited some good friends to go experience Dickens on the Strand in Galveston. We were all looking for a way to jump start the Christmas spirit.
Gus and I had gone with our young nephews 20 years earlier and it was great. Jacob Marley walking around with his chains and Tiny Tim with his crutch. People dressed as the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Fa la la la, let’s go.

We get to The Strand early and walk around. The decorations are great but something is off. The people are wearing black leather clothing with gears and whatnot all over their clothes. Then there were pirates all dressed in black and then there were all the bosoms overflowing from tight bustiers. Bosoms, bosoms, bosoms.

As the parade began, we thought we would finally get to see Jacob Marley and ‘ol St. Nick. We were wrong. It was more of the same so finally I said, “What the hell is this?” Someone behind us said, “steampunk.” Oh Lord have mercy, we all pulled out our phones and looked up steampunk.
Steampunk is what the future might look like if you lived in Victorian England. Let me tell you, that future is full of black leather, pirates, bustiers, gears, and bosoms. If you want to see that future for yourself, then all you have to do is purchase the house featured in this week’s column. Tell me you love steampunk without telling me you love steampunk. I will be kind and ease you into this.

Of course there’s a stripper pole. The future isn’t full of a bunch of pearl clutchers. Did I mention all the bosoms? But you can see the gears and color tone of the room. Okay, that was a warm-up.

You can see more gears and a pipe coming out of the wall above the television. Then there are the pirates’ chests.

More industrial type décor and a handrail that looks like it’s made out of steel.

Steampunk, Chris Rock. Steampunk. Now brace.

The only thing missing out of those two pictures were the bustiers and bosoms. The last picture will really sit you in your seat.

What a sweet and cute room for a little kid. Completely opposite of the rest of the house. It was somewhat shocking, right?
So there you go my peoples, now that you’ve seen this house you are prepared for Dickens on the Strand 2025. You are welcome.
