David And Brandon Bush Epitomize The Adage “Like Father, Like Son”

Just minutes into our conversation, I could sense the bond between David Bush and his son, Brandon. They play off each other, even banter a bit. And their clients seem to love it.
“It’s a bit of a comedy routine,” said David, whose eponymous real estate brokerage, David Bush Realtors, is a Lakewood/East Dallas stalwart.
“They love to hear I’m in business with my dad,” adds Brandon. “It goes over really well.”
It was only natural that the younger Bush followed in his father’s footsteps.
“My education started in the back seat of the car,” he said. “Even as a kid, I was learning every day.”
Early memories include helping his dad hand out flags to the entire neighborhood for the Fourth of July – a Lakewood tradition.
“This will be our 36th year,” said David. “Some people have been collecting them for years. When they’re all up for the parade, it’s a feel-good moment.”
By design, David Bush Realtors is a small, client-centric company, with deep roots in the community. Clients often become neighbors and friends – just one of the things that attracted Brandon to join the firm.

“It’s been so gratifying watching my son grow up to be a man. To watch as his skills develop; his level of responsibility, independence, and ability to communicate with people,” said David.
Brandon is equally lavish with the praise.
“David is energetic, wise, nurturing, my best friend. There are just too many adjectives to describe him,” he said.

Yet another “like father, like son” moment: They have the same bucket list. Both say it’s an overlanding expedition across the west coast of the U.S. into Canada.
“It’s also my dream that Brandon will finance the entire trip,” David said. To which the younger Bush quipped, “Then you’re going to have to give me a bigger cut.”

We asked. They answered.
Advice you’d give one another?
Brandon: I’d try to have David slow down a bit; to take a step back, breathe, and relax.
David: Communication and timeliness are key. Be very detailed in your transactions, keep copies of everything, and always follow up.
What do each of you bring to the business?
David: Brandon has deboomered me a bit. He’s helped me embrace technology.
Brandon: There’s so much to learn. David has helped build my confidence.

Best part of being a Realtor?
Brandon: The entrepreneurship, being my own boss, and the flexible hours.
David: The whole package. I just love what I do. Not every day is roses, but it’s what makes the good times fun.
Best perk of working together?
Brandon: A deeper understanding and appreciation for the business.
David: When Brandon was in high school, I used to yell at him for drinking beer. Now, we yell at each other while we’re both drinking beer.
Nice story about you and your son. Maybe I’ll meet him someday. Best wishes keep up the good work. Love ya!
