Casata Launches Tech-Enabled Single-Family Micro Home Rental Community in San Marcos

Municipalities across Texas are exploring innovative solutions to an affordable housing crisis. San Marcos’ latest solution is a 210-micro-home rental community. The one- and two-bedroom units at Casata San Marcos will range from 512 to 806 square feet. Leases start at about $1,600 per month for the first-of-its-kind development in Hays County.
Tiny homes have been on the radar in Dallas for quite a while — as an affordable option for young singles, empty nesters, or formerly homeless. What’s unique about the San Marcos development is that it’s a rental community.
“When it comes to tackling the current housing crisis, Casata San Marcos is both an innovative breakthrough and a breath of fresh air,” said San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson. “The concept of building micro-homes gives more families the opportunity to live and thrive in our community. It’s absolutely essential for our future.”
A groundbreaking for the new development was held on May 14 at 2138 Post Road, San Marcos.

Each home in the Casata development is technologically advanced, energy-efficient, and presents an attractive contemporary design, Casata officials said in a press release.

The homes are standalone — ideal for more privacy and an increased sense of pride of ownership — but creating community and connection are still priorities for the Casata developments.
The homes are in a neighborhood rather than serving as accessory dwelling units in the backyards of single-family homes. Amenities include a community center, pool, pocket parks, dog runs, and an exercise facility, all designed around existing landscaping and trees.
Casata co-founder Noah Pollack said the San Marcos development is the second venture for the Austin-based startup.
In 2022, the developer launched its first 66-unit micro-home community, Casata Austin. Two additional communities, in Bastrop and College Station, are also under development.
“This is a truly standout concept that melds environmental sensitivity and community,” Pollack said.
Hi !
I so appreciate this article. I live about a mile from the San Marcos Casata location. The Casata project sounds nice and promising.
I’m interested in having a casata cottage as I’m an aging person that would like to live on same property as my son.
Do you have any information that you can provide for the purchase of an eco-friendly cottage like, or similar to, the Casata units?
Thank you !
What will the price range for rent be for these homes?
