An East Dallas Home With a History Lesson on History Lessons

If you’re looking for a home in East Dallas, you’re already ahead of the game. It’s arguably one of, if not the best, areas in our fair city. White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum, Casa Linda Plaza … East Dallas is all hits and no misses.

This particular home is close to all of that and is even zoned for Hexter Elementary. DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT? It does because this was a builder’s personal home. Leon Wilensky built homes in Dallas for more than 40 years and each was said to be crafted as if it were a monument.

An East Dallas Home With History

According to his family, Wilensky always felt his true calling was to be a teacher. After an impressive career as a builder, he went back to school and taught English and history for 18 years.

I promise we’re going to talk about how freaking cool this house is, but one final Wilensky fact from his family. It’s the way he taught that captured the attention of his students. Instead of focusing on dates and places, Wilensky preferred to help students understand the meaning behind historical events. Just kind of a cool concept so I felt compelled to share.

Wilensky was a few sellers back, just to be clear. But Ebby Halliday’s Jay Forrester said the family did come back and tour the home and had so many great stories about it.

Living in The Present

Okay on to the current version of the home … Forrester said the flooring in the entry, kitchen, and main living room is actually imported brick that was painted a neutral greige a few owners ago. I freaking love it. And not just because it eliminates barfy, dirty grout. It takes that challenging brick floor and makes it look slick and modern.

The home has also been completely remodeled and the kitchen is unbelievable. The tiled inset shelving is maybe my favorite thing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before in a kitchen. Also, the use of pairings in this house is top-notch. They’re all like really, really good outfits.

Here’s another kill-me-now-it’s-so-perfect thing in the kitchen — the leathered granite countertop. Leathered granite is still granite with all its stain and heat-resistant capabilities. It’s even more stain-resistant due to the polished-but-textured surface. It looks matte and feels like leather and it’s awesome which is why it’s becoming more and more of a thing.

Honestly, this is just a gorgeous home. Everything is so perfectly picked and timeless right down to the exact right amount of intentional weathering on the back deck. Nothing but A+’s all around.

Forrester said his favorite feature actually is the backyard, but I’m straight up like how the heck can you even decide?

Forrester has 10006 Creekmere Drive listed for $679,000.
