Located just North of Benbrook Lake and to the southeast of Hwy 377 sits the community of Lakeside,
a Benbrook neighborhood that boasts affordable homes and a quiet way of life. Considering how hot Benbrook and its Aledo ISD schools are, this neighborhood is worth more than a passing glance.

Lakeside borders Winscott Road to the south and east and is a short drive from Dutch Branch Park.
Resident Jennifer Pacheco has lived in Benbrook most of her adult life and moved to the Lakeside
Community three years ago because of its affordability and laid-back atmosphere.

“The Lakeside neighborhood is traditionally a pretty quiet and sleepy area, even though it’s situated so
close to 377,” Pacheco said. “My nephews were raised here so I know. We have some really great
families here. There aren’t many neighborhood activities like the newer Benbrook neighborhoods and
hardly anyone trick or treats here because it’s so quiet.”

Featuring mainly mid-sized homes, Lakeside residences generally range in price from $290,000 to
$325,000, and dogs, home improvement and DIY, gardening and landscaping, walking, cooking, crafts
and sewing, live music, barbeque and grilling, hiking trails, and camping are among the top
neighborhood interests according to Niche.com.

Pacheco said there are a number of neighborhood and nearby amenities that make her community
desirable.

“We have the Benbrook Community Center YMCA that has a large indoor pool, indoor track over the
basketball court, full gym, and summer day camp,” Pacheco said. “I was actually the first-day camp
director when they opened for the first two summers. We have an antique mall, Lions Club, VFW, and
annual Heritage Fest. We also have a Benbrook Business & Community Showcase.”

Another nearby feature is the Benbrook Farmer’s Market.

“It’s for locals who make or grow the products they sell,” Pacheco said. “You’ll see dog treats, cookies,
breads, spreads, salsa, nut butter, honey, veggies, meat, t-shirts, and so forth. I would say this is my
favorite town feature. We all really get to know the vendors and they get to know us.”

An assortment of eateries off of Hwy 377, including Three Parrots, Lonestar Grill, Paisano’s, and Doña
Susy among others provide numerous dining options.

For recreation, residents have the Benbrook (Horse) Stables and Par 3, which is a driving range with
mini golf (including glow-in-the-dark nights), as well as batting cages.

Benbrook Lake, which provides fishing and camping opportunities and multiple holiday-related events,
is also a big draw for residents.

“We also have an annual tree-lighting ceremony the first weekend in December with fireworks,”
Pacheco said. “And we have an annual Night Out where everyone can come out to meet the Police
Department and Fire Department. The kids love it because they can sit in the fire and police trucks. We
are also just one or two exits away (5 minutes) from Bryant Irvin or Hulen — where they have movie
theaters, Main Event Entertainment, Hulen Mall, and other big named restaurants.”

Pacheco said that Benbrook also has a very active public library with weekly activities for kids and
teens and different monthly activities for adults.

The Benbrook woman said that she loves her neighborhood, and she believes the Lakeside community
has a lot to offer.

“We have a Facebook group for Benbrook residents that I would recommend to anyone living here,”
Pacheco said. “It’s a huge group, but everyone is so kind and positive on there. It’s a great resource for finding local businesses for HVAC, plumbers, mechanic shops/mobile mechanics, Realtors, and
veterinarians. We also have a small family plumbing business that plants American Flags down
Winscott Road & Vernon Castle for holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veteran’s Day.
Everyone in the neighborhood loves and looks forward to this.”
