From What To Whoa, This Lake Highlands Home Cuts Through The Clutter

After: A Delightfully Modern Exterior

Shepherds Construction and Renovation had their work cut out for them at 9936 Estate Lane. It was a *bit* of a hoarder situation and bit is an understatement.

BEFORE: Welcome to The Jungle

When they first toured the property, very delicately I might add, they noticed something. It hummed. Literally. There were 3 fully functioning beehives living on the other side of the ceiling. Step One was organically relocating those colonies back to nature where they belonged.

Step Two was hacking their way through the jungle that was the former exterior. And after that, they got to work.

They said the neighborhood was so excited to see this house restored to its former glory (and beyond, really), that one neighbor brought the construction crew cookies. They’re tight knit over there. They get to know their neighbors and they can’t wait to meet the next couple or family or single that snatches this one up and calls it home.

When they first found 9936 Estate Lane the kitchen was the size of a walk-in closet, but under the careful construction and vision of Shepherds, it’s now filled with, as they call it, chef-y vibes. (The former kitchen is now the mudroom with custom built-ins.)

It’s opened up, spacious and gracious, and features custom cabinetry and a generous island. There’s also a breakfast nook with big windows looking out into the backyard.

There are now two entertaining and dining spaces and part of what helps this 1960s house feel so airy and bright is the remodeled staircase. It was “hidden” before. Walled off so the house felt even more cramped than the stacks on stacks of “stuff.”

It’s truly remarkable what’s been accomplished here. Shepherds Construction saw through the clutter to the modern home that could be and they made it happen. There was a recent price improvement as well, $598,900, and with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and just over 2,000 square feet there’s plenty of room for you, too.

So rude to trash the previous owner with photos and hoarder comments. The “real” Lake Highlands residents would not humiliate a neighbor like this Candy’s DIRT article did.

That’s an interesting take. I don’t see it as trashing or humiliating anyone. People in the neighborhood were evidently thrilled to see this home returned to its former glory and I bet the original owner would also be thrilled. Homes fall into states of disrepair for so many reasons and that’s just life. This is such a spectacular success story and it inspires others to look beyond what’s in front of their faces to the possibilities a home holds rather than defaulting to tearing it down. I say KUDOS to this enormous save of an existing home.
