Fittingly enough, the home on Hamilton Avenue is a Colonial home (photos: Trey Freeze Media).

Tucked away in the Monticello neighborhood of west Fort Worth is Hamilton Avenue. It’s a beautiful street in a beautiful and historic neighborhood. Home after home, the street is lined with jaw-dropping homes in a variety of architectural styles and genres.

One such home on Hamilton Avenue is now on the market and needs to be seen. Completed in 2013, this home of 7,316 square feet is influenced by early Colonial architectural styles — more specifically Georgian and Federal architecture.

The Federalist Era

Federal-style architecture first came into prominence in the United States in the late 1700s. With a new government being formed in a new country — and a population explosion to go with it — the Federal style of architecture grew westward in popularity. The style pays homage to Greek and Roman motifs.

Many towns and homes mimicked Georgian Colonial architecture, which features balanced and symmetrically designed homes. Such is the case with this incredible Monticello home on Hamilton Avenue.

Other characteristics of Federal-style architecture include specifically defined rooms, such as a formal dining room or living room. Original Federal homes put most of the bedrooms on the second floor. That, however, is not the case with our subject, as the primary bedroom is found on the first floor. A smaller bedroom is also on the first floor with three more secondary bedrooms on the second floor. All bedrooms are en suite — something the early Americans of the late 1700s certainly didn’t enjoy.

With 7,000-plus square feet of living space, there are plenty of fun rooms and spaces to enjoy. While the style of the home calls for a traditional floor plan and layout, this well-designed recent construction does a great job of merging historic style with today’s open floor plan, which remains popular.

While the design is 18th century, the floor plan layout is more 21st century, complete with open spaces.
