From Facebook: What Design Trends Are On the Way Out?
Share News:
For this week’s social media-generated story, we asked our readers on Facebook about design trends they feel are O-V-E-R.
And boy, did ya’ll have some opinions. Some of you are OVER granite. Others feel TVs mounted over fireplaces are on their way out. Karen Eubank, our resident design maven and stager, says the vessel tub is floating on outta here.
Some have hate in their hearts for the Tuscan, the modern farmhouse, and the McMansion.
Some even dared to take the Fixer Upper name in vain, y’all. I think you might go to design trend aitch-ee-double-hockey-sticks for that. Like, a cupcake, a bag of shiplap, and some barbecue come to take you to a very dark place.
So below, in the name of experimentation, we’re trying something new — the responses from our readers in a slideshow format. We’ve had some itchy fingers to try this for a while, and this seemed like a great discussion to use this style of presentation.
So let us know what you think — and let us know what design trends you’re over. Agree with our readers? Have more to add to the list? Wanna fight about the Silos? Sound off in the comments!
Editor’s Note: Every Friday, we’ll post a hot-button question on our Facebook page. Sometimes, they’ll be serious. Sometimes, they’ll be more light-hearted. Want to take part? Like and follow us, and comment on this Friday’s question.
Love the slide show format. And I’ll one: those wooden letters spelling out the name of the room you’re in. Or what the room is for. Like EAT on the wall of the breakfast room. Like KITCHEN on top of the cabinets… thanks, we didn’t know that’s where we were standing.
Notice how there are never any signs in the bathrooms?
Just say no to shiplap!
How about those glass backsplashes with five or six colors! They are surely the next thing that everyone will be tearing out and replacing with something more subtle.
Sliding barn doors
Ha Ha. To summarize other commenters: Fixer Upper’s Chip/Joanna Waco style is out, out, out. I’ll even add chipped-paint furniture (no pun intended…maybe).

(Barn doors were always for those too cheap for a pocket door – IMHO.)
