Property Brothers Scout Dallas, Almost Miss Plane After So Many Autographs!

Candy and Lynda Piepgras with the Associates Realty took a quick pic with “Property Brothers” stars Drew and Jonathan Scott.

Don’t be surprised if you see a few D/FW properties popping up on a future episode(s) of Property Brothers.

Metrotex Association of Realtors brought the dapper Drew and Jonathan Scott to Texas Tuesday morning to share insights with North Texas Realtors, associates, and friends for a breakfast at the Renaissance Hotel. They spoke, took photos, and then signed their newest book, It Takes Two, which was at every plate.  Interesting: they signed the front of the book — much faster — and were exceedingly gracious. The brothers told me they thought Dallas real estate ROCKED. On the way back to D/FW, Drew Scott spoke to EW Entertainment, which is tracking his progress on Dancing With the Stars. Drew mentioned the Dallas trip and how they feel about their fans:

“Right after the show last night, I took the red eye to Dallas,” Drew Scott told Entertainment. “We had an appearance here in front of a 1,000 fans. We did a book signing for our book It Takes Two, and we ended up having 10 times the number of people come for book signing than what we expected. Jonathan and I are the kind of guys who don’t want to leave anyone without a signed book, so we stayed longer. It also means we might miss our flight. We’re racing to the airport now!”

Hope they didn’t miss it! They also mentioned this week’s sick, tragic shooting in Las Vegas:

You mentioned Las Vegas. Do you have a part-time home there?
I’ve been living there for eight years, so it’s been home for quite some time for me. I have friends who were at the concert on Sunday. Its a devastating thing; it’s a sad thing that happened, whether it was Vegas or anywhere else. It’s such a terrible thing when such an act of negativity happens to a bunch of people who are just out, trying to have a fun time.

Their book “is really about us and what makes us tick, what makes us the creative people we are today,” Drew said. It also covers the setbacks and struggles as the two worked towards becoming HGTV stars.

In case you don’t know, Property Brothers is a Canadian reality television series produced by Cineflix, and is the original show in the Property Brothers franchise. It airs on HGTV in the United States. The series features identical twin brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott. Drew is a real estate expert who scouts neglected houses and negotiates their purchases. His brother, Jonathan, is a licensed contractor who renovates houses with style and fervor. (I just love it when he takes up the sledge hammer.) Together, the Scott Brothers help families find, buy, and transform fixer-uppers into dream homes on a strict timeline and even stricter (in some cases) budget. Typical real estate glitz. The duo spoke to the huge 800-plus crowd Tuesday morning with agent-to-agent words of wisdom.

The Associates agent Lynda Piedgras was kind enough to invite me, and she tells me this was her major take-away:

“I took away that our time is valuable,” says Linda. “You may tell your client you are available 24/7, but you don’t have to be. I really love that they told us to value our TIME! Work hard but make time to have a life and a family! No need to take calls at 10 p.m. or 6 a.m., etc.”

I heard Jonathan talk about contractors, using the very best in the biz, and realizing that even with the best contractor relationship, that relationship may change and not be forever given the lack of labor in remodeling.

The brothers also talked about ungrateful clients, thankfully few and far between, and how to take them in stride … like how occasionally some clients might want the agent to find everything for free.

(Does that ever happen? Never!)

Basically, they were just really fun to look at … and hear and oh yes, Drew says vote for him on Dancing With the Stars!
