Monday Morning Millionaire: Saint Andrews Stunner Features Seasonal Kitchens in Highland Park

St Andrews Front

We may have breakfast bars in the master, but long ago, before there was air conditioning in the south, people of means did not have kitchens in the main house. I learned this years ago while purchasing a home in San Antonio. Up north, in my freezing native Illinois prairie lands, we wanted those kitchens in the house to help retain heat from the fireplaces. Hell, had I been around in those days I would have been the best damn cook ever — I’d have cooked anything just to stay warm and by the stove 24/7. Which leads me to my genetical theory of why women tend to like cooking, but I digress. Down in the south, you sure didn’t want the heat of the kitchen come summer, no sir. Also, kitchens were always catching fire. So keeping the kitchen in the back and separate made damn sure the main house didn’t fry.

But I think the summer/winter kitchens in this breath-taker, 6101 Saint Andrews Drive, are there to ensconce you in a summer feel, or a winter feel, depending upon the seasons. Or your mood. The home has four fireplaces, six bedrooms, seven and a half baths and five living areas. Of course, look at that street address and I rest my case. You don’t have to be a brain-surgeon to know that this is primo primo dirt and you get a width of 130, a depth of 217, a corner lot. The home was built in 1985 but with homes like this, they are updated and maintained like the mistress’s tresses: for all practical purposes, it’s practically new.

There are arched floor-to-ceiling windows & doors, which brings in oodles of natural light. Marble entry, a marble-floored piano niche, formals. There are triple French doors to a courtyard with fountain. In the 23 by 17 master suite you will find a sitting area, fireplace, his-hers baths with bidet, and closet space to knock your socks off. The EXTRA closet space will throw you!  There is also a paneled map room where you can study geography or the location of your next home, and of course the two kitchens, winter & summer.

St Andrews LivingIn the back, sparkling pool, walkways, rear private gardens & a lushly treed yard. This pup just hit the market end of April and is listed at $8,000,000 with Allie Beth Allman.
