Breaking Dallas Real Estate News: Steve Collins Jumps Ship and There is Now Way, Way Too Much Preppiness Over at Dave Perry-Miller & Associates

Share News:

You know he did it in his Top Siders! In fact, if you walk in the Preston Center office of DPM, just be prepared to go back out in beige slacks and Top Siders. The big buzz is that Stephen Collins has left Virginia Cook Realtors and joined the team over at Dave Perry-Miller, an Ebby Halliday Company. Steve was one of Virginia’s high-end, luxury home specialists  for years, selling, he says, over a billion with a B in real estate. Last November, I wrote about his listing on 4330 Park Lane, which is to-die for, which is now over with David Nichols at Allie Beth Allman. Anyhoo, I know Steve only too well: he is a Dartmouth guy who went to Greenhill Cistercian with three great kids and he lives in Preston Hollow. See? He is the ultimate preppy and almost never wears socks with his loafers. When we flew together on a G-5 to New York City a few years back (2005, to be exact) to check out the Palomar — this when the Palomar Residences were but a gleam in the developers’ eyes — Steve got on board wearing his hiking gear. He was meeting an old college friend to go hiking. He gets off the plane at Teterboro — Ed Bradley was just getting off a jet and getting into a limo — and Steve is all ready to hike Mt. Moosilauke .

His precious mother, Mary Ann Collins, huge Republican, also sells with him and both were present, I hear, at the DPM morning office meeting. Also hear he brought five wonderful listings over with him. What I’ve also heard, but cannot confirm, is that he has been given Ellen Terry’s old office in the Douglas Ave. suite at Preston center. Hmmm. Gonna have to pack a backback and make a field trip…

Update: Guess I don’t know Steve all that well: he went to Cistercian. Mixing him up with another real estate-y Dartmouth guy, Mickey Stuart, who DID go to Greenhill.

Changing brokers is a big deal! Steve is joining many agents at DPM who where the heart and soul of ABIO where the newest agent was just as important as the top producer, no one cared who the top producer was, and there was a level of connectedness and energy that cannot be described. Steve, make it happen again. I miss it. Congrats!

My favorite "Steve" story: I was showing out of town buyers on a cold Saturday a few years ago. You know the drill – 15 appointments..blah…blah…blah…
After the first one – I go back to the car and it won't start. I call Steve, because one of his listings is next, I tell him the situation. 10 minutes later he pulls up with his son following him. Son was driving his wife's black Mercedes. Son tosses me the keys and Steve says "Bring it back when you're done". Class of the industry.

Saw Steve's name on an open house tour today — he scratched out VC and added DPM. Like changing the date on your checks each New Year!
