This Fairmount Craftsman Bungalow Is Both Lovely and Lavender

As a CandysDirt.com writer, I have been known to write more than once about the glorious white houses. As a homeowner, I also have been known to paint houses white — two so far.

Why? They’re crisp and clean. They stand out from the landscape. They glow in the summer sun. They gleam at dusk. The contrasting trim, whether it’s red (like a front door I once owned), blue (like the shutters I added), or black (so on trend right now), is a perfect accent to the lines of the house and prevents the white from being too vanilla.

But white is not the best color for every house. White is not my favorite color. (Technically white isn’t really a color, but let’s not argue that here.) What I can tell you is that a beautiful color, my favorite color, is lavender.

And it’s not every day you can say, “Slow down, tap the brakes, I want to see this lavender house.” But, friends, today I can tell you where to see a fabulous lavender house at 2233 Fairmount Ave. The lavender is a beautiful color, somewhere between red and blue, but so much prettier than purple.

“That’s not photoshopped,” said listing Realtor Brian Holland with Fort Worth Focused Real Estate. “I love the color as well. I’m not averse to color.”

The home’s broad porch offers a chance to sit while admiring the beautiful color of the house.

More than Lavender

Yes, not only is this 1,596-square-foot house a lovely shade of Easter egg purple, but it’s located in the white-hot Fairmount neighborhood. The increasingly popular neighborhood has embraced some fun colors, and the historic neighborhood is happier for it. It’s part of the vibe, along with large front porches and walkable streets, that draws people into house hunting on Fort Worth’s Near Southside.

“I understand the allure,” said Holland, who confessed to having owned four houses in the area. “I can’t seem to leave.”

Headache Cures

Remodeling the kitchen included countertops, flooring, and lighting.

The neighborhood, with streets and streets of houses more than 100 years old, comes with a historic overlay with guidelines that protect the area’s character and charm. But when a house goes back a century, a few updates are in order from time to time. This lavender lovely has those potential headaches covered well.

“It’s turnkey, and it’s updated,” the Realtor said, “and to find those that have been done properly in Fairmount is a needle in a haystack.”

The list of updates completed on this 1911 Craftsman is a lengthy one, especially for a house priced at $539,500. Since 2020, the renovations have included replacing the wiring, plumbing, hot water heater, and kitchen appliances, folded into an all-important kitchen remodel. Additions to the house have been a back deck, a French drain, a bathroom, a laundry room, under-the-house insulation, and gutters. Windows — very much a sacred part of these historic homes — were refinished and improved in 2020, the same year the gutters were added….as was the lovely lavender exterior paint color of Canterbury Bells.

Hardwood floors and an open layout highlight the house.

Rare Find

This well-preserved three‑bedroom, two‑bath home features hardwood floors and an open, light‑filled layout. Highlights include classic built‑ins, a kitchen updated with granite countertops and marble accents in the spa-like bath. The primary offers a rare find for a historic home — his-and-her closets in the primary bedroom.

His and her closets are unusual for a house built in 2011.
Colorful choices are found not only on the exterior, but also in this bathroom.

Holland, a Realtor who mostly sells homes Fort Worth’s Near Southside, jokes that “nobody ever leaves the neighborhood. They shuffle until they get the right house.” Whoever buys the house at 2233 Fairmount Ave., he said, has a responsibility that comes with ownership.

“You never own the house,” he said. “You’re just the next steward of the house, so treat it accordingly.”

If I could add one other piece of advice, it would be to keep that beautiful color, too. See what you think Saturday when this lavender lovely is held open from 1 to 3 p.m.
