Century-Old Fairmount House in Fort Worth Comes With a Tiny Bonus

The home’s porches offer perfect perches for sky watching and neighbor greeting.

There was a big celebration recently at 1951 College Ave. in Fort Worth. Food, friends, and cupcakes were involved because this sweet blue house was believed to have turned 100 years old.

“It just celebrated its 100th birthday, and it’s still standing,” said Realtor Ashlee White about the listing. “And it’s probably got one of the most stable foundations in Fairmount.”

Just how many 100-year-olds are stable and standing straight? This one is.

A Lady and Her Age

But wait… maybe this house or some historian was fudging the birthdate. Turns out, according to local historian and preservationist Michael Tucker-McDermott, this house was built in 1911. Its first resident was Berry F. Davis, a railroad worker.

White found out after she’d held the grand dame’s birthday party, and she’s happy to have the facts now. Not only is she the listing agent, but she and her husband are also the owners of this 1,500-square-foot cupcake honoree.

She always loved her home in the historic Fairmount Southside Historic District, where she had always hoped to live. White got her wish, but adding a husband and two children changed her housing needs, so she’s made the tough decision to leave her old blue friend.

“It’s a quintessential bungalow,” she said of the house she fell in love with before she met her husband. “It really embodies that 1920s Victorian Era style, but it also has a bit of an American vibe because of its colors. It’s blue and white.”

Hardwood floors, shiplap, and high ceilings are found in this 100-plus-year-old house.

It’s a Twofer

As proof of the American ingenuity at work here, this property is actually a two-for-one deal at a price of $524,900. In addition to the main home, remodeled in 2016, there’s a tiny house with all kinds of potential.

The main residence holds onto its early‑century character with high ceilings, original shiplap walls, and hardwood floors in its 1,550‑square‑foot layout. Its split‑bedroom design gives the primary suite its retreat-like feel, complete with a vintage clawfoot tub. Meanwhile, the living, dining, and kitchen areas flow together in an easy, open arrangement.

Just beyond the back door sits the bonus dwelling created from what was once a simple shed. The detached 250‑square‑foot tiny house features vaulted ceilings, a kitchenette, a full bath, a dedicated sleeping area, and its own private driveway. Used as a rental property, it could also be deployed as a mother-in-law space, home office, or personal studio.

“Together we created the design, and away we went,” White said of the tiny house project she and her handyman husband designed.

For them, it’s been a popular rental, at first for traveling nurses since it’s close to Fort Worth’s medical district, but more recently, it’s been booked by crews working on Taylor Sheridan’s popular TV series Landman.

The 250-square-foot accessory dwelling unit has been used as a popular rental property.

Porch Perks

What White says she’ll miss a lot are the porches of her house. There are three of them, including a wrap-around porch and a covered gazebo. They’re important assets in this historic neighborhood known for porch sitting, walkability, and friendliness. It’s more than 100 years of tradition in Fairmount.

“Honestly, I don’t want to go,” she said of the house she’s trading for a larger residence to accommodate her growing family. “Fairmount’s got a great culture.”

The house is part of the historic Fairmount neighborhood, where walkability and large porches are part of the appeal.

Realtor Ashlee White with Engel & Volkers Fort Worth has listed her own home for $524,900.

Hi Juanita ! I’m the historian mentioned in the story. Would you happen to have or be able to look for or find thru relatives any older photis of the home? This includes literally ANYTHING showing the exterior or interior or parts of it. This includes any photos taken of family members standing out front, especially if things down the street in background show up, or any interior features that aren’t there anymore… just honestly anything. Love the older family photos too even if things in or out of the house aren’t part of the image. I’m putting together my second book on tbe area’s history and slways looking for anything at all. Let me know! You can just email me at [email protected]—Thanks! Michael McDermott.
