Architect Eddie Maestri Evokes John Hughes With Custom Stunner in Park Cities

When it comes to the architecture of American cinema, a few places come to mind. From the Gump plantation to the Gatsby mansion, some of our most famous residences are as renowned as the stories behind them. Of course, few have brought as many of them to life as John Hughes. The man behind the Home Alone Georgian Colonial, the cozy Christmas Vacation home, and the Ben Rose House from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off might be solely responsible for my love of suburban architecture.

While each of his homes was distinct in its style, there was certainly a criterion for his Chicago-based scouting. Each property seemed to feature three things: a ton of square footage, iconic character, and a cozy aesthetic. Well, except for the Ben Rose House…

Recently, I came across an original Eddie Maestri that fit this bill perfectly. As soon as I saw it, I couldn’t help but imagine Molly Ringwald, John Candy, or Judd Nelson greeting me at the door.

From the outside, the home is emblematic of one of those classic ’80s flicks. With a hearty, two-story stature, stark white façade, and mature setting, it welcomes you in a way only classics can.

Then, the interior is beyond breathtaking. Another requisite for a Hughes home is a staircase that greets you upon entry. This one fits the bill with a sweeping banister, sky-high ceilings, and an abundance of natural light. With warm hardwoods, plantation shutters, and detailed craftsmanship, Maestri makes a statement with every square foot.

The home features a traditional layout that’s also incredibly easy to traverse. Main gathering spaces include a formal living room, family room, two dining areas, and plenty of space to relax.

The chef’s kitchen is an entertainer’s dream. Its many features include quartz countertops, a six-burner DACOR range with dual oven, two Miele dishwashers, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, and a 150-bottle Sub-Zero wine refrigerator.

The primary suite boasts vaulted ceilings and offers impeccable views through a private balcony, making it a serene retreat within this spacious home. Additionally, the arched alcove allows for incredibly creative layout options.

Then, the ensuite bathroom is beyond impressive. Here, sophisticated design sets the stage for amenities like a stand-alone soaking tub, massive walk-in shower, and multiple vanities. Of course, the showpiece is the two-way fireplace that creates the coziest experiences.

A dream walk-in closet featuring an island, a makeup mirror, and ample storage makes getting dressed a delight.

Other extras include a beautiful office space, an upstairs entertaining room, a massive laundry room, and three other full bedrooms.

Finally, the backyard is a breath of fresh air with an abundance of amenities and space for everyday living. With a full outdoor kitchen, covered patio, and perfectly manicured lawn, it’s a seamless extension of the hospitality inherent in this home.

If you’ve always wanted a John Hughes dream home, this is definitely the Dallas version. Well done, Eddie Maestri.

Fantastic house, but it doesn’t appear to be in the Park Cities.
