If you are a true Cowboys fan, you will know Pettis Norman. And if you are looking for an incredible opportunity to own a house in an idyllic setting, his custom home in Wynnewood Hills hit the market yesterday. But before I tell you about this opportunity, you need to know about Norman.

As a tight end with the Dallas Cowboys, he played in Super Bowl V in 1971. He also played in temperatures worse than what we just experienced in the 1967 NFL Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, in what was known as the Ice Bowl. But Norman was more than just a Dallas Cowboy.

Norman helped break racial barriers on the team by advocating for integrated room assignments, telling Tex Schramm, “We are a team. We cannot separate by color.”

Norman continued advocating for equality, founding the Dallas Together Forum to tackle economic issues for minorities and women. He also became a successful businessman and announcer. After Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, Norman spoke to students in Washington, D.C. about using voices over violence. His passing last summer left a large hole in our community.

When Norman and his first wife, Margaret Ann, started looking for a place to raise their family, they found an idyllic 1.3-acre lot in Wynnewood Hills on a cul-de-sac overlooking the historic Golf Club of Dallas. They built this 3,679-square-foot ranch-style home with four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and, of course, a home gym for the athlete. It was built to last forever, with discrete ADA enhancements hinting at the owners’ intention to remain there for a lifetime.

And indeed, it served Pettis Norman well. He and Margaret raised three daughters here before she passed away in 1991. In 1995, Norman continued to enjoy his life in this Wynnewood Hills home with his second wife, Ivette Hightower, in one of the most peaceful and beautiful neighborhoods in Dallas. He passed away in 2025 at the age of 86. It is indeed a home built to last a lifetime.

Designed with the stone fireplaces that Midcentury enthusiasts love, a timeless marble entry, and white oak hardwoods throughout the home, it’s a tribute to the 1970s aesthetic that has become so popular today.

Dave Perry-Miller’s Jason Saucedo has the Pettis Norman home at 1430 Bar Harbor Cir. in Wynnewood Hills available for $799,000, which is the most phenomenal opportunity I’ve seen in months.
