The Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy is hosting the annual Dilbeck Home Tour on Saturday, Oct. 18. Four University Park Dilbeck cottages and their gardens will be featured this year.
Dallas has long been captivated by the unique, whimsical, and enchanting style of Charles Stevens Dilbeck. Devotees of architecture and history alike are still enthralled by his work. Back in 2014, for instance, we were receiving letters like this:
Hey Candy, I was just wanting to know if you knew of any websites or books that are about Charles Dilbeck or have a list of the homes he designed. He is my favorite architect, and I know he built a ton of houses in Dallas, but I have also found homes in more random towns like Sherman and Waxahachie. I would really appreciate the feedback because I have loved every single house that I have found that he built. I want to see more of his amazing work. Thanks again.

Fast forward, and our reader’s wish has been granted. Because of the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy, Dallas is now the epicenter of Dilbeck knowledge and opportunity. Part of the organization’s mission is to showcase these significant properties through the Dilbeck Home Tour and other events.
Since the conservancy launched in 2022, there have been tours of the Dealey residence in Westlake, events at Red Bryan’s Smokehouse restaurant in Oak Cliff, a “Four Sisters” Home Tour in the Park Cities, and a Fall Garden Party at one of the most memorable Dilbecks in Dallas. There is even a page on its website dedicated to Dilbeck homes for sale.

“When you see a Dilbeck from the street or tour an inviting interior, you discover a charming and whimsical world full of character, a composition of details masterfully arranged in unique and often one-of-a-kind ways,” said Nancy McCoy, the current president of the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy. “This tour is meant to enhance your experience of interacting with and looking at Dilbecks by calling attention to the details and revealing the ways these buildings engage us visually and functionally.”

The Dilbeck Home Tour benefits the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy, a group of dedicated architecture fans (affectionately known as “Dilbeckians”) who are passionately dedicated to preserving the masterful and magical legacy of this great Dallas architect.
