That’s how it should be since this Parker County town of almost 40,000 is the official Peach Capital of Texas because the state legislature deemed it so. An annual summer peach festival also celebrates this fact.

Whether it’s peach season or not in Weatherford this area continues to be as hot as peach pie. Aside from liking this summer fruit, people are moving west of Fort Worth in big numbers. The town’s population has grown almost 98 percent since 2000, statistics show.

In addition to their peaches, the people are rightfully proud of the historic homes built there, and the former homes of celebrities, too. Victorian, Queen Anne, and Greek Revival styles still stand, and as do the homes of Broadway star Mary Martin, her son Larry Hagman, who played J.R. Ewing on the “Dallas” TV show, and Jim Wright, former U.S. Speaker of the House.
