Perfect Pairing: Quirky Dilbeck Meets Bewitching Crestwood

It’s been too long since we looked in on my favorite Westside neighborhood Crestwood which contains some of Fort Worth’s most unique and lovely residences nestled on lots graced by ancient oaks some of which grow in the middle of the charming arcadian lanes.
Some readers may believe Dallas has a monopoly on Charles Dilbeck houses cherished for their sui generis charm but Fort Worth has some fine examples of his unique style including this fairy tale cottage at 305 Crestwood Drive, deeply set back from the street on a one-acre lot.

If adjectives like enchanting, magical, and bewitching spring to mind it’s no accident. This one-of-a-kind domain paired the signature Dilbeck style with the guidance of its first owner Ren Clark an eccentric whose CV monikers include hotel developer, magician, and bourbon maker.

The four-bedroom, four-and-one-half bath rambles over 4,000 square feet on multiple levels. Inside one encounters the studied elegant rusticity which typifies the the Dilbeck style. Decorative details include a rich repertoire of materials including bead board ceilings, rough-hewn beams, masonry pillars, and bespoke brickwork.

The residence’s ambiance alternates between nostalgic quaint cottage and late Deco modern. The house features multiple dining and living areas.

The kitchen has kept pace with the times including updates to cabinetry and appliances including a 60-inch chef-grade gas oven with a top-of-the-line hood.

The primary bedroom is part of an enormous suite painted in Schiaparelli shocking pink which looks both modern and retro. The sophisticated color scheme contrasts with the rustic raw wooden beams.

The bath features grey and white marble and large shower stall with windows capturing the sylvan views of the lush lot.

Crowning all of this is a gorgeous terrace with ravine views and nary a neighbor in sight. There is a back house that adds another 900 square feet including a full kitchen. The house seems to have found a buyer and is “pending” after having been on the market for over six months, underlining the challenges of selling over the $2 million price point. Whoever succeeds in landing this one-of-a-kind house will experience pure magic.

Susanna Gorski Bartolomei of Compass Real Estate listed 305 Crestwood Drive at $2.25 million.
