Heritage Oak Cliff Home Tour Home: 906 Leatrice Drive
This Midcentury Modern, ranch-style home in the Sam Dealey Estates subdivision is a prime example of what the post-WWII homes in this area of Kessler Park have to offer. Fun fact about the origin of the neighborhood’s name — Sam Dealey was a decorated WWII submarine commander, nephew of George Bannerman Dealey, who helped establish Southern Methodist University, brought a Federal Reserve Branch to Dallas, and yes, THAT Dealey Plaza is named in his honor.
The home at 906 Leatrice Drive receives ample natural light from the large windows which line the front façade and from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room area.

The home was custom built in 1951 for developer Rowland Pelt, who was a contractor for many homes in the Sam Dealey Estates neighborhood. The home is noted architecturally for its distinctive Roman brick façade which accentuates and mimics the home’s overall long sprawling design.
Step through the front door, where you are welcomed by a rich burgundy entry way where the walls are textured in Venetian Plaster.

The formal living room is bathed with light from the large windows, with beautiful symmetry and balance in the furniture layout, and a glimpse into the dining room.
At the time the current homeowners purchased, the home had lost all character of Midcentury Modern and was more traditional due to how previous owners remodeled over the years. It was very important to the current owners to bring back a Midcentury aesthetic, but with an updated feel throughout. Shortly after purchasing, the owners took the home down to the studs to renovate.

With the help of Stefania Morandi of Chad Dorsey Design, timeless Midcentury details were reimplemented while also adding in today’s practical functionalities. With around 4,200 square feet of living space, the single-story residence features beautifully curated bedrooms with large windows, light fixtures that are almost pieces of art themselves, terrazzo flooring in the hall bathroom, and a stunning master bathroom featuring more Venetian Plaster which blends into the massive marble slabs that make the shower and adorn the wall around the freestanding bathtub.

Another distinctive architectural detail can be found in the backyard which includes a serpentine-like, tile paved, covered walkway that connects the home to an oversized garage and guest house. In the image you can see the pathway.
Last, but certainly not least is the unbelievably handsome and moody, dark chocolate lacquered wood paneled office with furniture that looks plucked right out of Don Draper’s office from the Mad Men set. The entrance into the room features a glass-encased liquor cabinet, behind the desk are built in shelves, and if you stare at the image long enough, you’ll notice a hidden door that leads to a full bathroom.
