In a recent episode of Dallas Dirt, host April Towery sat down with Paul Ridley, the District 14 Dallas City Councilman, to unpack the newly approved ForwardDallas comprehensive land use plan, why Dallas needs more housing — of all kinds, and his plans for re-election.
Ridley, who played a pivotal role in crafting the final document, elaborated on the significance of the ForwardDallas plan’s language and its long-term impact on the city’s development. He emphasized the rigorous process for re-zoning has not changed. When questioned about the notion of rezoning cases being “rubber-stamped,” Ridley asserted, “I don’t think there is a rubber stamp at City Hall,” underscoring the thorough review process for each application.
The conversation also ventured into Dallas’s contentious short-term rental ordinance and Ridley’s stance against allowing such rentals in residential neighborhoods. He remains hopeful that the ordinance will endure legal scrutiny, sticking to zoning restrictions that protect single-family communities.
Ridley expressed hope for resident engagement, applauding public interest in policy-making while urging informed participation. As he gears up for reelection, he said he maintains his commitment to transparent governance and policies that resonate with constituent needs.
