A major investment is underway at Plano’s Legacy West, bringing Japanese hospitality to North Texas.

Garfield Public-Private will develop the 217-room Miyako Hotel at Legacy West. Construction could begin on the hotel by the end of this year, officials with the development firm said in a press release.

The Miyako Hotel will be on the south side of the $1 billion Campus at Legacy, which hopes to transform into a mixed-use space featuring offices and retail.

Japanese Hospitality

Legacy West has been home to Toyota’s North American headquarters since 2017. While the initial thought behind a Miyako Hotel in Plano was to accommodate guests visiting the Toyota campus, the hotel is expected to serve a variety of travelers as Plano continues to evolve into a corporate destination.

The hotel will combine Japanese sophistication with Texan hospitality and aim to be affordable for various incomes, officials said.

There are 20 Miyako hotels in Japan, and the Plano location will be the third in the U.S.

For four decades, Dallas-based Garfield has developed more than $1.6 billion of public-private projects and an additional $3.5 billion in public-private consulting and planning experience. The company has developed projects in Durham, N.C., New York City, and across Texas, including the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences in Lubbock.

“Garfield solves impediments to the delivery of essential facilities, enabling them to be completed sooner and more reliably than traditional public bid methods,” its website states. “Garfield devises innovative development solutions, using financing structures not commonly known to or employed by conventional developers. Garfield’s proven turnkey method minimizes the public sector’s contractual risk and administrative burden, streamlines the procurement process, and enables ‘fast-track’ delivery, within budget and schedule, of high-quality facilities months or even years ahead of when otherwise thought possible.”

Guest amenities at the Miyako include a pool deck with individual sauna rooms and a rooftop bar featuring teppanyaki dining and sweeping views of the surrounding area.

Construction is expected to be complete in two years.

Beautiful! Would love my 62 Anniversary therein a couple of years! It is amazing all the things I have seen in my 80 years! Self-service gas stations man the a big one trying to figure out how to get the gas From the pump to the car. We always had guys to do that then the girls started pumping gas, over the years saw Galveston make a big come back. The Main Street, The Starnd, needed something. Then people started moving downtown to lofts above the store and Galveston blossomed again. The advent of the cruise ships docking was the best thing that ever happened to. Living in Dallas it was the easiest way to travel. Drive down the day before, have a nice night at a hotel then board the ship the next day! Man in space, man on the moon, NASA Houston, drones. Look back 80 years and you’ll know what I am talking about. Computers the best thing ever!
