Joanna England: Even Though I’m Leaving, Being Executive Editor Has Meant a Lot to Meme

Share News:

Enjoy this collection of my favorite real estate memes as the outro plays on my time as executive editor.

I was a new mother when Candy Evans approached me with the idea of growing her newly formed blog, CandysDirt.com, into a real estate news site that covered the North Texas region. The scope of her vision was inspiring, but I didn’t feel like I was ready to tackle a project so immense while I was still figuring out how to keep a small human alive.

But Candy’s energy, encouragement, and support was what it took for me to come into my own as executive editor of her media brand. As a team of two, we won gold in the National Association of Real Estate Editors’ annual journalism contest. Little did I know that our team would grow exponentially, that we would make waves, and that we would win even more awards.

We’ve consistently been on the bleeding edge of real estate news, creating columns, concepts, and marketing campaigns that have been regularly imitated by competitors.

We doubled down on our municipal coverage, spurring change at Dallas City Hall with our excellent journalism. We launched a podcast that has a steadily growing audience. And we’ve done it all while being the insider’s source for Dallas-Fort Worth real estate news seven days a week.

While I’m going to miss working with my amazing editorial team and my hardworking publisher, I can’t help but be proud of all we’ve accomplished through my 12 (!) years as executive editor. I am proud to say that the team that will take the helm in my absence is poised to make even bigger waves and chase even more stories.

Readers will be heartened to know that familiar faces are at the top of the masthead at CandysDirt.com and Candy’s Media.

Shelby Skrhak has been promoted to Editorial Director, April Towery has been promoted to News Development Director, and Brenda Masse has been promoted to Content Marketing and Social Media Manager. Please congratulate them on their new positions and feel free to reach out! They are a talented, hardworking bunch, and no one knows the North Texas real estate landscape better.

So, with that I leave you with my favorite real estate memes from my time collecting them over the years. I hope you enjoyed them and I can say that I very much enjoyed bringing the best stories in North Texas real estate to you.
