[Podcast] Yes, Forward Dallas Is About Change, Says Committee Member

Share News:

On this episode of Dallas Dirt, CandysDirt.com City Hall Editor April Towery spoke to one of the committee members who helped draft the controversial Forward Dallas, the comprehensive land use plan that is seemingly turning vocal homeowners against the city.

Opponents have accused the city planning staff of having an agenda, but guest Nathaniel Barrett points out it was the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Committee that made the recommendations that seem to have upset active homeowners in affluent Preston Hollow and nearby single-family neighborhoods.

In this clip from the episode, Barrett says while he understands opposing homeowners’ concerns for their single family homes, he makes it clear that Forward Dallas does not exist to protect legacy land uses from Dallas’ past decades. It’s a vision for Dallas’ next century ahead.

“The very first draft showed what was clearly a single family detached only type of area with places that might allow other types of residential dwellings like duplexes or small apartments,” Barrett said. “And it was at the direction of the committee that we told the staff that we did not want to make a distinction between those two types of residential areas.”

“The city is facing a problem together, and while no one area has the bear all the change, no one is exempt from it either,” Barrett said.
