Ensconced in Velvet, This Palm Springs MCM Makes The Perfect Birthday Gift

Share News:

Happy New Year, my peoples. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a fun start to 2024. I want it on the record, however, that none of you sent me a gift. Not a one. But then it occurred to me that since I have a January birthday, you all decided to pool your nickels and dimes together to get me one great big Christmas, New Year, and birthday gift. Kinda cheapo, but I will take it.

And just to push you guys in the right direction, I know what I want and am more than happy to share it with you, just so there is no confusion. You are going to love giving me this gift. It is glorious.

Yeah, I am that excited. I digress.

My love of Midcentury Modern homes continues with this queen located at 1240 South Manzanita Avenue, Palm Springs, California. It has four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, and is 3,250 square feet. The longtime owner of the home was the “plumber to the stars” and lived next to Liberace, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. The owners are asking $1.85 million.

Described as “fabulously decorated,” the home is “offered with its custom-made period furniture framed by archival velvet flocked gold foil wall covering and 100 percent deep-pile wool carpeting.”

YEAH, BABY!!! Happy Birthday to Mimi!!

If you close your eyes and clear your mind, you can smell the gallons of bourbon and the innumerable menthols that were consumed in this house.

The description called this “the swanky, curved, wet bar.” There has never been a more accurate description in the history of real estate. Swanky, baby!

That table, those chairs, this room is worth $2 million all by itself.

The bedrooms are even better.

Nothing screams luxury more than velvet. Just sayin’. The carpeting in each room is different so that it matches the bed. Mwah is all I have to say.

The bathrooms are equally exquisite.

So what if my rods and cones take a little time to readjust when I go outside? It is a minor inconvenience I am willing to make.

So there you go, my peoples. The perfect birthday gift for all of you to give to moi. 2024 is getting off to a really good start for you guys. You are welcome.

Contemplating slap and tickle in those lurid velvet chambers has me feeling thoroughly Rabelaisian. A happy and prosperous new year to you Mimi, your family, Candy’s Dirt staff and contributors, and readers!

Truly, I think there is enough room for all of us to share the house. We absolutely need more velvet in our lives. Thanks for the read. Have a great Thursday.

I’m with you, Paul… I’d change very little, if anything. Nelda Pickens would be envious!

No doubt Nelda would have been smoking her “More” brand cigarettes. Thanks for the read. Have a great evening.
