Colorado Listing’s 1970s Decor Will Have Your Head Spinning Like a Disco Ball

Growing up in the ‘70s was wild. Every misconception I have about home decor is centered around three things: is it shiny, is it an animal print, or could it be easily mistaken for a disco? If the answer to any of those questions is “yes” then baby, I’m going to love it.

Case in point: the light fixture in my laundry area. It is the only original light fixture remaining from when we remodeled our home down to the studs. I wanted to keep it in the dining area but my husband said that would be a wrap on our marriage so to the laundry area it went. It resembled the clear crystals at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude only they were made out of plastic.

So all that brings us to the house featured in this week’s column. My friends, this house hits the trifecta!

It took me a little while to get past the flag being so low to the ground. I guess zip-tying the flag closer to the top of the light pole was asking too much. But then I got distracted by the lawn sculpture only to realize it was a dead tree. Turns out the dead tree is a sculpture of an eagle horse combo with another animal but my zoom only goes far.

This house and it’s lawn-bound ménage à trois of animals can be found at 608 Meander Drive, Grand Junction, Colorado. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and has 4,865 square feet. The owners are asking $630,000.

The house just screams ‘Merica, right? Wait until you see the inside.

Royal blue shag is how you make a statement. Not sure what that statement is, but it is a statement nonetheless.

No need for a mirror when your wallpaper is this reflective.

If I did not have the Fortress of Solitude light fixture in my laundry area then this would be my next choice. Some bird-like creature, swords, tassels — my God it is glorious.

The basement, however, will leave you gasping for breath.

Fun fact: whenever someone steps on cheetah print carpeting, the song “Dancing Queen” by the Swedish group ABBA begins playing.

The only thing missing is the disco ball. That light fixture is a travesty. All I have to do is close my eyes and I can picture the parties held in this room under that glorious, spinning metal ball.

The accuracy of this GIF is amazing. Ah-mazing! And now I can not stop singing “Dancing Queen” and neither can you. You are welcome.

Time for me to go have the time of my life with my light fixture as I move my laundry from the washer to the dryer.

“Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
