Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour Offers a Close-Up Look at 6 Historic Dallas Homes

Dallasites can take a step back into local history on Dec. 9 when six private homes in the Winnetka Heights Historic District open their doors to the public for the 35th Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour.

There are more than 600 houses in the Winnetka Heights neighborhood of Oak Cliff, which was platted in 1908 and designated a historic district in 1981. Since then, the area’s homeowners have been diligently preserving the turn-of-the-century architecture while also modernizing the interiors of their homes. The Holiday Home Tour is a rare opportunity to explore both aspects of these charming Craftsman and Prairie-style homes up close and personal.

The event will kick off at the historic Turner House at 401 N. Rosemont Ave., where guests will receive their tickets and a map for the event. They can also bid on coveted silent auction items donated by neighbors and local businesses. From there, guests can choose their route to explore the six homes — seven if they upgrade to a VIP ticket, which also includes refreshments.

The Holiday Home Tour is the Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association’s hallmark fundraiser, raising capital to improve sidewalks, parks, street lamps, and more in the community that’s a short drive from downtown Dallas and only a few blocks from the renowned Bishop Arts District. The association is dedicated to preserving the neighborhood as an enduring symbol of early 20th-century life, while ensuring Winnetka Heights remains the most vibrant historic district in the city.

The 2023 Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour will be held on Dec. 9 from noon to 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 if purchased in advance, or $25 if purchased on the day of the tour. VIP tickets are $40 if purchased in advance, or $50 if purchased on the day of the tour.
