Bold and creative describes both Shauna Glenn and the unique Fort Worth Midcentury Modern she unflinchingly reimagined.

Glenn’s personal home that she shares with her husband, Jeff Jones, is on the market. It’s a riot of color mixed up with Midcentury Modern, reflecting the signature style her decorating clients hire her for.

“It’s decorating with lots of bold patterns and color,” Glenn said of her home at 1801 Merrick St. in Fort Worth. “I’m not really afraid.”

Property Potential

Glenn and Jones have owned the home since 2020, but Realtor Rick Wegman with Compass Real Estate was initially reluctant to show the couple the property because of the work he saw it needed. In addition to working as a Realtor, Wegman has worked with Glenn on multiple projects. He credits her with the successful outcome of the eye-catching house.

“She had a vision for this property, and it turned out more spectacular than I ever imagined,” said Wegman who is representing the couple again for the home’s sale. “People see it and their jaws hit the floor.”

Glenn, a writer who’s been working in home decorating for the past decade, saw past such obstacles as an unused carport and only two bedrooms that might have stopped others.

“This house was not a teardown,” she said. “It was so cool and so unique and had so much character.”

Renovations, which included major work such as transforming a garage into a living room, and also bright, cosmetic upgrades started right away. Moving from a 4,000-square-foot house they built, Glenn knew the open concept was not for her. She likes the designated spaces of the Merrick house and the Midcentury Modern vibe, even though the house initially was much smaller.

“I hate open concept,” she said. “It’s cozier to live in space that has compartments to live in.”

Fort Worth Midcentury Modern Color Explosion

Throughout the house, the colors are bright, intense, and clear. Blues mix with oranges, and pattern on pattern is the norm. The colorful mix continues throughout the home’s entire 3,150 square feet.

“With it being a Midcentury Modern, I picked a palette that was true to the period of the house,” Glenn said. “It just happens to work.”

The revamped and expanded house, which includes a bedroom and bath addition, now totals three bedrooms and four bathrooms. A home gym topped the garage, lighting was updated, and new flooring was added.

Even with the updates for modern living, the house still gives a nod to the 1950s, remaining unique and funky. All that fun flair extends to the outdoors. Sitting on a bluff, the house offers backyard views, a hot tub, and still more intense color. A custom mural accents the walls of the outdoor kitchen, a great place for entertaining.

A-Plus Location

The home’s location is close to Fort Worth’s River Crest Country Club and the bricks of Camp Bowie Boulevard. It’s what Realtor Wegman calls an “A-plus location in a pocket of Midcentury Moderns.”

Listed at $1.395 million, the Fort Worth Midcentury Modern at 1801 Merrick St. is ready for its new owners. Even so, the current owners, who are thinking of traveling more, still love the place they’re willing to give up.

“It’s not for everybody, but it works for us,” Glenn said. “It’s a very cool, unique. She’s a jewel box. She’s pretty cute.”

I love a home that got great color. We need to stop painting houses grey and beige.
