Welcome to Grandview, Texas. This community is just 39 minutes South on Interstate-35 West from Fort Worth and yet it’s like a trip in a time machine.

Imagine Making Grandview Your Hometown

With an estimated population of around 1,800 residents, the town of less than two square miles has a lot of pride for the local schools and two-time state champion football team. However, if you blink you might miss it … and that would be a shame.

The city limit sign needs to be updated, but Grandview is still a small town.

Originally settled in 1850, one visitor exclaimed, “wow, what a grand view!” upon arrival and the name stuck. Once the county seat of Johnson County (now it’s up the road in Cleburne), Grandview has that charm and nostalgia that so many people are looking for these days in a hometown.

Imagine a place where you can see the stars at night. Imagine a town where you know your neighbors and they know you. Imagine a community where multiple generations of Texans have raised their families. Imagine no more because that place is Grandview.

A perfect welcoming porch to greet visitors and wave at neighbors

703 E College St.

Within the city limits is a more-than-100-year-old Victorian home located at 703 E. College St. Yes, there was a college in Grandview at one time in the past. This home, situated on half of an acre and surrounded by mature pecan trees, is now available for sale.

The first thing that greets you is the front porch. A home like this in a town like Grandview has to have an inviting front porch. Just imagine the meetings and greetings that have taken place on this porch in the past century.

If this porch could talk…what stories it must have

Upon entering the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home of 1,848 square feet, the next thing you’ll notice are the hardwood floors. Beautifully stained and well-maintained, these floors are the original floors from when the home was first built.

Twelve-foot ceilings, beautiful original hardwood floors, and notice the molding along baseboards

The entire home has 12-foot ceilings and you’ll see intricate woodwork around the door and window casings, baseboards, and molding along the ceilings as well. Immediately off the entry is the formal living area — they used to call it the parlor and you can almost imagine antique furniture, tea sets, and proper conversations happening in there over the years.

The kitchen is quite spacious for such an old home. It flows into the dining area and there is also access to yet another porch.

The primary suite was added to the home around 20 years ago. A large bedroom, walk-in closet, and comfortable bathroom were luxuries that homes built in the 1920s certainly didn’t have.

Early 1920s homes didn’t have separate showers or soaking tubs.

This home is only a short drive from downtown Fort Worth and yet it feels like 1950s Americana. The current owner told me that many people who live in Grandview might work in the Fort Worth area, Dallas, or even Waco as the home of Baylor University and Magnolia Silos is only about an hour away.

You can almost picture family gatherings and neighborhood parties happening here over the past 100 years.

If you are looking for a little slower pace of life, highly rated public schools (did I mention recent 2-time football champs? They’re proud of that), to live in a community where everyone knows your name and you can feel proud about your town then Grandview just might be the place for you.

If you want a beautiful home that oozes history and nostalgia, then check out 703 E. College St. It could be the perfect place to retire, raise your family or just enjoy.
