Can You Spot The Original Structure of This Revamped Ranch on Preston Hollow Road?

Revamped Ranch

My, my … what would my grandparents think? They built their home in Tanglewood, the first development in Edwards Ranch, on Preston Hollow Road in 1960. The then-new addition was home to simple but attractive ranch-style houses and several daring modern designs. Those original ranch houses now sell for north of $600,000. In short, the area has continued to prosper. With its plentiful mature trees, winding streets that divert through traffic, and the allure of highly rated Tanglewood Elementary School, a Tanglewood listing — especially a revamped ranch is very desirable and, more often than not, short-lived. This listing is only six hours old.

This popular Near Southside enclave has fallen victim to its own success. The deep lots and sometimes underappreciated original houses tempt buyers to tear down and rebuild something larger and grander. My grandparents’ house is still standing, however, albeit with additions and admittedly needed updates.

The good news? Some of this new construction isn’t bad. In fact, some of it is high quality and, given a decade or so, will prove an attractive addition to the neighborhood. That’s true of 3241 Preston Hollow road with its sophisticated layout and appealing bleached limestone veneer.

The listing gives a 1959 date for construction but I defy you to find the original core. The spacious residence now sports over 3,900 square feet with five bedrooms and four baths with a deep street setback on a 16,000 square foot lot.

The floorplan is gracefully open with multiple living areas. The same white limestone employed on the exterior is used on the interior with the fireplace wall.

The ambiance is at once traditional though with a relaxed easy elegance. Smart contemporary furnishings create light livable rooms

The kitchen features abundant bright white cabinets, a center island, quartz surfaces, and Viking appliances. Downstairs rooms are enhanced by rustic oak wood floors.

A private study is reached by three steps and is warmed by wood wainscot and oak beams.

The principal bedroom has a rather glam bath and large walk-in closet. The bath has fashionable fixtures and fittings capped by a barrel vault. A double shower stall is tucked behind the contemporary tub with a glass half wall looking into the room.

On the second level is a huge bonus space with extensive built-in cabinets and shelves large enough to serve as a workout room, media room, or game room.

The backyard has three seating areas one of which has an outdoor fireplace. At the side is a two-car garage.
