You might be distracted for a few minutes when approaching the fourth hole of the spectacular Byron Nelson-designed championship golf course at Hackberry Creek Country Club. The distraction has nothing to do with lining up your shot. It’s actually this magnificent two-story luxury showplace overlooking the tee box. Buying it just might up your game!

This was always a lovely home, but it was not always a luxury showplace.

Sapna Desai’s parents moved here when she was in middle school. Fast forward a few years, and they were ready to downsize. Sapna and her husband, Jai, were living in a rental with twin daughters and needed to upsize. It was logical to buy mom and dad’s home.

But, if you’ve ever bought your parents’ home, you know you have to make it your own.

“I took my architect through the house,” Sapna said. “When I finished telling him what I wanted, and he put it all on paper, we realized we had to take it to the studs.”

This was meant to be the forever home, so with Jai in commercial construction, no detail was overlooked. They added foam insulation throughout the 5,615-square-foot, six-bedroom, eight-bathroom house. They also added home automation, an elevator, a sauna, and a huge media room over the garage.

The original footprint was expanded to create an enormous deck with a retractable awning. They added piers for the extension to keep one level throughout the first floor, giving the home a dramatic showplace look from the golf course.

The couple loves to entertain, so the house’s open-plan living was key, and a gorgeous centrally placed bar overlooking the stunning golf course was a stroke of genius.

“We’ve loved this house and living in Hackberry Creek,” Sapna said. “It’s a safe, gated community, centrally located to everything, and has a small town feel where everybody ends up knowing everybody. It’s so easy to get connected. The homeowners association puts on four huge parties yearly, and there is a great women’s club.”

When the Desai’s finished their dramatic showplace, they had no intention of selling. They’d built their home to last a lifetime, but when their girls were accepted into a private school in Dallas, they started thinking about the drive to school and playdates.

“We thought with a new school, it’s time for a new place close to it,” Sapna said. “We love remodeling and rebuilding, so we’re looking for the next challenge, but I’m definitely recreating our kitchen and media room! This has been such a livable and comfortable house.”
