You Might Get a J.R. Ewing Vibe in These Collin County Apartments

It’s apartment living — not that there’s anything wrong with it — but it’s one in which you might get a distinct J.R. Ewing vibe out of it.

Brinkmann Ranch in Frisco was one of the first stars of Dallas, the CBS television drama that ran from 1979 to 1991. Lorimar Productions used Brinkmann Ranch, formerly the Cloyce Box Ranch, as the backdrop in the first five episodes before moving on to Southfork Ranch in Parker.

Now, plans are in the works to build a 500-apartment development on what was part of Brinkmann Ranch. Dallas-based Trammell Crow Residential announced that it will break ground this summer and have the project completed by early 2024, The Dallas Morning News reported. The $118 million-plus development will have a dozen three-story apartment buildings. Trammell Crow Residential is one of North Texas’ largest apartment builders with 14 properties in Dallas alone.

In 2020, Plano-based Landon Development purchased 637 acres of the ranch, which is on the west side of Coit Road between Main Street and Eldorado Parkway.

At one time, the Brinkmann Ranch consisted of 5,000-plus acres at Preston Road and Main Street. It’s a vast parcel of land and is regarded as one of the largest vacant tracts in Frisco.

North Texas continues to be a hotbed for apartment growth. According to CBRE Group’s Q4 2021 U.S. Multifamily Figures report, multifamily investment in North Texas was nearly $28 billion, which represented more than 8 percent of the nation’s total. (The report is here. Talk about a rabbit hole. 🐇)
