Head Dome For The Holidays in Terrell

You know we love a geodesic dome on CandysDirt.com, and here’s one to love even more. It’s in Terrell and we’ll get to that, but let’s talk about that design first.

The thing about a geodome is all the measurements are so precise that creating that octagonal wonder ain’t easy.

RE/MAX Elite’s Kimberly Korfe said there’s a photo album of the original construction in the house that’s pretty impressive. She also pointed out the little-known fact that geodomes aren’t just cool looking, they’re actually created to withstand winds and even tornados better than a square house.

Oh boy, oh boy, even as I write that, I can FEEL the comments rolling in. CORRECT ME IN THE COMMENTS. Just be nice.

This is only one of two geodomes out in Terrell, and this one has remained pretty true to the original footprint.

There’s a loft upstairs plus one bedroom with the other bedroom downstairs. Get this — even though it’s only a two-bedroom, this has always been a family home. In the other geodome, they’ve enclosed the loft to make it a three-bedroom. So that’s the diff.

Also, both were built in the 1980s. I don’t know what was going on back then, but they were really into domes and dome homes. (Also, poofy hair.)

Now let’s talk about Terrell or at least the little slice of Terrell where this home resides.

Korfe said this is an area that’s heavily wooded with lots of native oak trees. She said out there, acres are more common than lots, so there’s a distinct country feel with the convenience of the city close by — Rockwall and Forney being the closest.

There is also a collection pond on the property which sounds like a great place to toss a coin and make a wish, but it’s actually a manmade pond to collect drainage. WHO KNEW?

Other bonuses on these two acres? A detached workshop with electricity, a big two-car carport, and a detached garage. It would be a fantastic rental property and there are a lot of wedding venues around so you could also throw up an altar and help people say “I do.”

Korfe has 226 Cheyenne Trail listed for $289,000.
