Lakeshore Dreamboat

More often than not, lakefront properties seem to fall short. Remove the lake and they don’t manage to hold their own without the scenic backdrop.

On the market for 10 days, this lakeshore dreamboat at 8910 Dickson Road — on arguably the most desirable street on Eagle Mountain Lake — is such a stunner that I was almost certain the “Bow Tie Guy,” aka Seth Fowler, had scooped me on this one-of-a-kind listing.

Located on a peninsula, the architecturally erudite construction built in 1995 is perched on a 1.5-acre wooded lot so breathtaking it was difficult to select an image to lead with. In the end, I opted for a long aerial view to give you a sense of the scale of this unique property in its setting.

The façade of the residence, actually the second floor, looks rather modest and discreet. This is one of the rare instances that I find myself featuring a garage visible from the street — three-car, by the way. Clues to the quality of the construction are in the fanciful hardscape, with features such as a scored concrete drive, beautiful stonework, and a cistern-like calming water feature (which was built by the firm that did the Kimbell Art Museum pools).

Listing agent Robby Carson informs me that grounds are among the most beautiful on the lake, with 26 varieties of carefully tended trees.

Eagle Mountain Lake’s Star-Studded History

At this point, a brief excursus on the distinctive character and history of Eagle Mountain Lake merits attention.

A mere 15 miles from downtown Fort Worth, the lake is one of the most beautiful in North Texas. It spans nearly 9,000 acres and extends from Fort Worth to Azle. This quiet oasis has hosted a number of notable celebs. The Beatles had a brief visit on their first US tour in 1963. Seems their pilot had a place on the lake. The Eagles summered here for 12 consecutive years beginning in the late ’70s. Considered one of the best lakes in the country for sailing because of its deep waters, it lured Ted Turner to train for The Americas Cup. Arlington Heights High School graduate John Denver also sailed Eagle Mountain.

The sun-drenched, 5,000-square-foot contemporary structure rambles over multiple levels. Seen from above, the great room section of the residence is suggestive of a sleek ship with its prow pointed at the lake. The nautical trope is sustained in the interior with the open living/dining/kitchen area resembling a cruise ship with a hardwood deck and stacked layers of windows.

According to the listing, every room enjoys a lake view.

There’s not one but two kitchens. This house is designed for entertaining. Check out the size of the double ovens with a warming drawer in the catering kitchen.

The ground floor has two living areas, including the one above that offers solitude and privacy from the main area behind closed doors.

The house has four bedrooms and three baths. The principal bedroom is on the second level (the entry level) with one of the best lake views in the house — or anywhere on the lake, for that matter. The ample aerie is nearly 600 square feet and has an en suite bath, custom closet, and a large sitting area.

The remaining three bedrooms are on the first level and enjoy arboreal views.

Balconies wrap the house. A series of rather impressive rampart-like retaining walls manage the terraced grounds. The property enjoys 500 feet of lakefront — about four times the Eagle Mountain Lake average. An extra-long boardwalk leads to a dock and launch that can remain operative, even during the worst droughts.

Robby Carson of Helen Painter Group Realtors has called Eagle Mountain Lake his home since 1965 and currently has several million-dollar-plus listings on Eagle Mountain Lake, at least two of which have fallen swiftly under contract.

Robby Carson is offering 8910 Dickson Road for $2.8 million.
