Boat House Road

In the three years I have been writing for CandysDirt.com, I haven’t really done lakefront. Perhaps the torpor induced by the heat of another July in Texas drove me to water, in search of refreshment of the spirit. Eagle Mountain Lake, with its surrounding hills, is one of the more attractive and authentic looking man-made area lakes. It seems to get knocked about by the occasional tornado from time to time — as recently as June 19th of this year. In late May of 2011 the lakefront drive — Boat Club Road — suffered some minor damage. Built four years before, in 2007, 9931 Boat Club Road seems to have come through insolently unscathed.

If peace and quiet lake living is your jam for the Fourth – 1901 Park Street is for you!

Let’s face it, parades and clowns aren’t everyone’s ideal way to spend the Fourth of July holiday.  If you are more of a “relax and enjoy the lap, lap, lapping of the lake” type, then I have the property for you!

Azle, Texas and Eagle Mountain Lake

Azle? Where is Azle?  Is that in Tarrant County?  Does it qualify for our Bonus Tarrant County Tuesday post? Actually yes, Azle, is a bedroom community of Fort Worth – one of the best-kept secrets that is starting to get out – about 17 miles northwest of Cowtown.

Lake living at its finest

Home, pool, and lake — any questions?

The town of around 13,000 residents is partially in Tarrant County as well as Parker County — so it totally counts to be highlighted in our Fourth of July Bonus Tarrant County Tuesday

Eagle Mountain Lake Marina was severely damaged during high winds in last night’s storms. (Photo courtesy of Laketography)

Eagle Mountain Lake Marina just can’t catch a break, it seems. The Fort Worth marina, which leases boat slips to owners in North Texas, has sustained several storms and one fire only to be completely wrecked during high winds last night.

The owner and operator of Eagle Mountain Lake Marina, Suntex Marina Investors, has closed the marina until further notice.

“We have been able to access the docks and are glad to report a considerable amount of boats are undamaged and thankfully there has been no loss of life,” said Linda Kennedy, general manager, Eagle Mountain Marina.

From the Kim Dawson Agency to up-and-coming star Realtors at Rogers Healy and Associates Realty, Maggie Parks and Kodi Nelson are the dynamic duo comprising Model Realtors — a sort of boutique shop within the extensive and diverse roster of Realtors at the Healy agency.

“After 20 years modeling at Dawson (they are still on the books) I was looking for a new challenge,” explains Kodi Nelson.

She and longtime friend and fellow model, Maggie Parks, were attending real estate classes at Champions and were impressed by guest speaker Rogers Healy.

“Rogers exuded such confidence and energy we knew we wanted to join his team,” she recalls.

“He isn’t the kind of agent who will pass out cards.  He exploits social media in innovative ways to grow business and that fit in with our model,”  she adds. (more…)

I could spend a summer sitting on this deck and be just fine!

Summer is for Eagle Mountain Lake living (photos: Trey Freeze Media)

When you think of summertime, what do comes to mind? Great films such as Summer Rental, Summer School , Dirty Dancingand of course the legendary Michael J. Fox made-for-TV movie, Poison Ivy. Great songs like Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald, Cruel Summer by Bananarama (I still have a crush on them!), and Wipeout and Surfin Safari by the Beach Boys.

Too bad they don’t make summer movies like they used to.

When it comes to homes in Tarrant County, where there is no beach, when you think of summer, you need to think of Eagle Mountain Lake!

Mariposa del Lago | Fort Worth, TX | Luxury Real Estate

I had heard this was coming down the pike. The price is very interesting. You may recall that last fall, Fort Worth billionaire John Goff, a self-made man, and founder and CEO of Crescent Real Estate Holdings, and his wife Cami, were all set to sell their super fantastic lake property at Eagle Mountain Lake at auction October 8. There was TONS of publicity. As soon as we broke the story, Candace Carlisle over at the DBJ, wrote about it, and even asked Mr. Goff if he was “sad” to be selling the compound:

Are you sad to be auctioning off your Eagle Mountain lake house? It is sad. We love the property and we had so many good times there. We decided to go this auction process because it’s sometimes hard to bring attention to a property that’s not in an inner city and is in a destination like that. We have successfully used this auction process in some of our business ventures when we have had second homes we developed and so we decided to try it and it’s bittersweet. We are adding on and renovating a place in Fort Worth. We are just long on houses.

How many houses do you have? I’d rather not say. We have homes in Cabo and Colorado and we travel a lot.

The lake estate was listed with Kyle Crews and Daylon Pereira of Allie Beth Allman, and the auction was commanded by the sharp, busy folks at Concierge Auctions, based in Austin.

There was TONS of interest, too, not to mention at least four registered bidders, which is pretty darn amazing for a property said to have $8 million or more in it. A pre-emptive offer on the gorgeous retreat came in 24 hours before the auction was set to begin. So the agents and Concierge folks decided to work that offer, and postpone the auction.  The gated retreat, known as Mariposa del Lago, or “Butterfly of the Lake,” (based on the tremendous number of monarch butterfly migration patterns on the grounds each year) has been the Goff’s central family retreat for the couples’ five children since 2001.

They got a pre-emptive offer! No kidding! The Goff’s auction was set to take place last Thursday, and there was TONS of interest, not to mention four registered bidders. But a pre-emptive offer on the gorgeous retreat named “Mariposa” came in 24 hours before the auction was set to begin. So the agents decided to work that offer and postpone the auction. What with all that marketing, and this great video, no wonder. I drove out to Mariposa on October 1 for a lovely pizza and wine event with Kyle Crews and Allie Beth Allman and people were crawling all over the place. The gated retreat, known as Mariposa del Lago, or “Butterfly of the Lake,” (based on the tremendous number of monarch butterfly migration patterns on the grounds each year) has been the Goff’s central family retreat for the couples’ five children since 2001.We will keep you posted on the sale. Meantime, here is the full Mariposa story and how this custom-built compound on an 8,600 acre lake, with pool, tennis and sport court, kids pavilion and putting green is where one of the most significant decisions in financial history went down.

It’s also where a whole lot of regular business deals have been made. So it wouldn’t surprise me a bit that one of those key players may have wanted the compound. It was on that putting green where John Goff convinced Morgan Stanley to buy the company he and Richard Rainwater built, Crescent Real Estate Equities, for $6.5 billion dollars in August of 2007. A custom-built compound on an 8,600 acre lake, with pool, tennis and sport court, kids pavilion and putting green where one of the most significant decisions in financial history went down. This is definitely the deal of a lifetime for anyone who wants an extraordinary lake home retreat in North Texas, or even a primary home that happens to be on a beautiful lake with a two story boat dock and oh yes, two boats.

Fort Worth billionaire John Goff, a self-made man, founder and CEO of Crescent Real Estate Holdings, and his wife Cami, are selling their 8,000 square foot plus compound on Eagle Mountain Lake, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth. The sale will be made by auction October 8 without reserve. That means no minimum, though one will probably be established by the bidders. Not only are the Goffs selling the compound they re-shaped from an existing home on Eagle Mountain Lake, they are selling every piece of furniture, plate, bedsheet, even the fluffy white towels monogrammed with the compound’s Jack Sprague-designed logo, Mariposa del Lago.IMG_9488

“We are even selling the margarita machine,” jokes Cami Goff, “and selling the mix that comes with it!”

The winning bidder can grab their toothbrush and move right in!
