Picture Perfect Penthouse in Montgomery Plaza is a Lesson in Lacquer

It’s a rather rare event when a stunning penthouse apartment on two levels in Fort Worth’s signature Montgomery Plaza Building comes on the market. In fact, this spectacular unit with nearly 360-degree views has had only had one pair of owners. In 2019, Fort Worth designer, Holly Lydick completed a meticulous and extravagant year-long renovation of the nearly 3,500-square-foot apartment with three bedrooms and three-and-one-half baths.

The owners have employed design elements like trumeau style door frames and exquisite, 12-coat French lacquered woodwork inspired by their frequent travels to France. It is rumored that $250,000 was spent on the paint-work alone.

And I might add, it shows.

Getting Lacquered Up

The foyer has an opulent polish with its lacquered paneling and custom marble floors, which leads to a great room with soaring 19-foot ceilings. Wooden floors are in a fashionable herringbone pattern. Urban loft features like exposed electric and air ducting contrast with the refined elements to create a sophisticated cosmopolitan mise en scene.

Colossal, original industrial windows flood the space with light.

The kitchen ascends to double height with a lacquered canopy floating over a large island. The repertoire of appliances includes a Sub-Zero refrigerator with dual freezer drawers and ice maker, a Sub-Zero wine cooler with dual zones, and two dishwashers. Custom cabinetry and island are also embellished with gleaming lacquer.

At center is an intimate library converted from a bedroom. The black lacquered paneling with custom cabinetry trimmed in 24 carat gold has an ethereal nocturnal quality.

The first level is anchored at either end by a bedroom suite. The primary suite also has dramatic 19-foot ceilings, large windows, and a wood plank ceiling. The bath features twin basins, a soaker tub, a shower stall with twin heads, and custom marble and tile. The deep, bespoke closet is impeccable with high-end cabinetry and abundant storage. The guest bedroom suite with grand, deep coffered ceilings in black lacquer also includes a private bath and a custom closet

An industrial metal staircase leads to the second level which has a game room (event center would be a more accurate description) with a wet bar. The room functions as a service area for the roof-top terrace. The only apartment in the building with unobstructed downtown views, terrace entertaining behind the Montgomery Plaza sign will be long remembered. The outdoor grill is plumbed for gas.

Other extras include eight-inch baseboards with electric outlets, Restoration Hardware light fixtures, a posh powder room with a sink carved from a solid piece of marble, and 3 HVAC systems.

Luxury Amenities Included

Montgomery Plaza is a full-service building including a private media room, meeting lounge, putting green, workout room, concierge service, and of course the rooftop pool. Public areas and halls are about to undergo a complete update.

Unit 2806 is one of five apartments that comprise The Private Residences, which come with added perks. Perks like a private elevator and one parking space plus four additional spaces in a private garage. All of this lock-and-leave luxury located in the center of Fort Worth’s Westside, close to the museum district, shopping, and downtown.
