Willow Bend Estate on Golf Course ‘Wows’ with Luxe Appointments

FIrst a little history lesson for those who just got here or who think Dallas has always been this big. Before the Dallas North Tollway went to (darn near) Oklahoma as it does today, in the mid ‘80s it barely went past Keller Springs Road. Imagine that! But as Dallas and Plano growth began to accelerate, road expansions into “the boondocks” did as well.

In a classic case of “if you build it, they will come,” Gleneagles Country Club (circa 1985) and numerous estate homes began to spring up around the grounds of nationally renowned Willow Bend Polo and Hunt Club — the brainchild of the late polo enthusiast and restaurateur Norman Brinker (founder of Chili’s Grill & Bar). The Club eventually closed in 1996 and in its place, 45 NFL football fields’ worth of homes, including this one, emerged. The Plano neighborhood was akin to North Dallas’ Strait Lane estates and to this day attracts those with an affinity for luxury.

This well-appointed 2.7 acre example, offered by Cindy O’Gorman for $4,490,000, is located at 2000 Willow Bend Drive along the golf course. With seven bedrooms and 8.3 baths in 14,919 square feet (per tax roll), it is truly fit for a king. Or queen. Coincidentally, or not, the 36 holes at Gleneagles are divided into a Kings Course and a Queens Course.

According to O’Gorman, “this architectural testament to quality and luxury manages to be quite timeless as well. The true character of the original home shines brightly, as no detail was overlooked. Wine enthusiasts and car collectors will especially be thrilled with the walk-in wine room and 9-car garage, respectively. I can’t wait to see who ends up calling this house home.”

Beyond the circle drive, a fountain and exquisite double iron doors into the foyer open to a beautiful grand staircase. After you pick your jaw up off the floor (perhaps masks will help with keeping it in place), note that luxe details are everywhere you look. A crystal chandelier here, ornate fireplace there, two primary suites, billiard room, heart-shaped hydro tub, exercise room with sauna and wet bar, impressive three-story windows overlooking the backyard with pool and spa, tranquil fountains, and enormous veranda space and… Are you starting to get the idea? This estate makes a statement.

With nearly 15,000 square feet plus a two-bedroom guest home with kitchen and bath, continuing on room by room might take more time than you likely have today. So the pictures will take it from here.
