Check Out This Cozy Home With Custom Details In Claremont

For the Thursday 300: Thanksgiving Edition, we’re headed out to Ferguson and Lakeland in an area called Claremont. It’s southeast of Hollywood Heights, Forest Hills, and Casa Linda Forest, but it’s still in the same-ish general area.

It’s also where you’ll find this recently renovated three-bedroom, two-bathroom house that feels way bigger than its 1,608 square feet.

It was built in 1960, but thanks to the classic exterior and all the updated interiors, you couldn’t tell by looking at it. We’ll call that exterior era agnostic because it kind of is. And maybe it’s the shutters and railing and support columns and color scheme that add to it. MAYBE.

Now if you judge a house by a Realtor write-up and more specifically a how many words are ALL CAPS in that write-up, then this one is in good shape.

Listing Agent Margarita Resto spared no CAP when she told us all 8454 Sweetwater. Key phrases include GORGEOUS HOME, NEW WINDOWS, FRESHLY PAINTED, NEW EXTERIOR DOORS INCLUDING GARAGE DOORS AND UPDATED + STUNNING. Those last two were talking about the kitchen which was completely remodeled and features soft drawer closing cabinetry.

What we love about this house is yes, it’s a flip. Has to be. But it feels different. It’s not as cookie-cutter as some we’ve seen and there are some nice touches like vertical subway tile in the bathroom. It’s just enough of a modification to make it feel fresh. The shampoo and conditioner inset has a little crosshatch pattern that looks like plaid. Some say “why?” We say “why not?”

The kitchen feels really modern and the herringbone tile backsplash, again, isn’t one we see every day, so we appreciate it.  They’re playing it safe with grays and neutrals and we’re not mad at it. Love the stainless steel vent-a-hood and the modern light fixture even more. In such a small space that light fixture is a big deal. It provides light (duh), but also adds a little bit of flair. Thumbs up.

There’s one wall lined with roughhewn wood which is a creative detail that makes a simple house feel custom and cozy. Overall, that’s exactly how this house feels. It feels like a home and for that reason alone, it’s worth checking out.

Margarita Resto with Aarant Realty Company has 8454 Sweetwater Drive listed at $380,000.
