New is Old Again at This Preston Hollow Modern Colonial

Modern Colonial There is an old saying, “Everything old is new again.” Our Monday Morning Millionaire is a Preston Hollow modern colonial that is a lovely example of the complete opposite of that saying. The owners of 6346 Desco Drive were intent on creating a home where everything new is old again.
“I grew up in Dallas, and I wanted my home to look like an old Dallas home,” owner Amity Gillespie said. She wanted to create a look that would make you think this was a venerable old house that had been restored. So, she and husband Keith set about creating their modern colonial in 2009 with Mullinix Custom Homes. Mullinix is known for their ability to create old-world craftsmanship and their attention to detail, so the Gillespies were in good hands.

Modern Colonial The two-story modern colonial has 8,583 square feet, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and four powder baths. It also has an air of the French countryside about it. Just look at the hardscaped Travertine flooring leading up to the home, the basket weave stair risers and of course, the custom-plated and handmade front door inspired by the Baccarat Museum in Paris. Those gorgeous arched and shuttered windows remind me of beautiful estates in the south of France.Modern Colonial

Once inside, the entry has custom-made iron doors and inlaid marble floors in a black and white diamond pattern. I’m in love with those marble stairs.

The detail in this modern colonial is simply above and beyond anything you could imagine. Just take a look at the living room with coffered ceilings, marble floors, and a gorgeous black marble fireplace imported from France. I’ll run out of room giving you all the details but suffice it to say, you’ll find mother of pearl tile, Murano chandeliers, Walker Zanger tile, Venetian plaster walls, and that’s the tip of the design iceberg.

I’m so glad to see people embracing color. If you don’t like teal velvet walls in your dining room, you can move on down the road because this room is exquisite. There is nothing more luxurious than velvet walls!

“We’ve lived all over the world,” Amity said. “We wanted our home to reflect the soul of our family, and not just be a fancy decorated house. It’s a glamorous house, but it’s also a comfortable home. You feel like you live the story of our lives when you see our house. There is such an overwhelming sense of peace when you come into this home, and it’s a feeling that stays with you. I’m going to miss the details, the character, and of course the piano bar. That’s the most fun spot, where the parties happen!”

Allie Beth Allman’s listing agent Christine McKenny has this drop-dead gorgeous modern colonial listed for $3.9 million. If you’re looking for move-in ready luxury, this is it!
