Remodeled Casa View Cliff May Hits Market Tonight

Cathy and Darren Lee have flipped about 20 homes in the last two years, but none of them were quite as distinctive as this Cliff May-designed midcentury modern in Casa View.

If 2620 Andrea Lane looks familiar, it’s because you’ve likely seen it while touring Casa View’s epic collection of California modern homes. Listing agent Alicia Lee will put this updated and expanded Cliff May on the market this evening for $310,000 — a record-setting price for the area. To find out more, call 972-978-6584.

Though many of these homes have been neglected or suffered incompatible renovations over the years, this particular home is solid — something Darren insists upon for all of his investment properties.

“The first thing that we do is have a structural engineer come out,” he said. When necessary, additional beams and piers are added to shore up foundations. From there, great attention to detail is paid on the things that make homes work — like plumbing and electrical. In this particular home’s case, a lot of plumbing was reconfigured, the yard was graded, and structural work was completed. “A lot of the updates were made in ways you just can’t see,” Darren added. That doesn’t mean that we don’t appreciate them, though.

If you’re familiar with Cliff May’s style, you can see immediately that the two-car covered car port in front of the house was enclosed. Even more space was added in the master suite, too, and the kitchen and living areas are completely open to one another. Though this takes from the courtyard feel of the Cliff May design, and in the process you lose the enormous banks of windows, it’s still very appealing with the sloped ceilings and clerestory windows found in the spaces. There’s also a large deck built off of the living room, which allows for seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining.

“The home has gone through extensive renovations, including an addition to the original floor plan,” says Nathan Grace Realtor Mindy Niehaus, who organized last year’s wildly successful Casa View Cliff May Home Tour. “A large master suite was added, which makes it one of the larger Cliff Mays at over 2,000 square feet. Thus, this one gives you the sought-after Cliff May features but with a bit more room to enjoy.”

Other upgrades include recessed lighting and updated fixtures.

There are three bedrooms and two full baths, and a total of 2,162 square feet of space. That’s large for the neighborhood, but still, this home is priced under $150 per square foot and in an enviable location.

“Viewed as one of few true affordable neighborhoods in Dallas, many also realize its close proximity to downtown Dallas, White Rock Lake, 635, and more,” Niehaus added. ” The uptick in neighborhood popularity, affordable price points, and the unsubtle Dallas real estate surge has certainly contributed to the area value and demand.”

So while this isn’t a par-for-the-course Cliff May midcentury modern, it is a great house in an up-and-coming area from a sought-after architect with plenty of space. Oh, and a great backyard, too!

Nice home, but it sadly doesn’t have any remnants of mid-century modern left.

I have to disagree. The clerestory windows and roofline very much speak to the Midcentury Modern style.

I have to disagree as well. The architecture in itself screams mid-century modern. It’s a lovely little house.

Nope doesnt look midcentury modern. And it looks like another half ass flip that. These guys are driving up property taxes and selling junk.

The Cliff May architecture is great. However, it’s missing the mid century feel on the inside by all the upgrades in design choice. The lighting fixtures, flooring, kitchen and baths. All major design elements, which have been modernized and are very nice, but they are not the look and feel of mid century modern. Hopefully the new owners will add MCM furniture and change out some fixtures to help bring this one to life. Love the clerestory windows!

Got a contract on this beauty. You’re right. It doesn’t scream mid cent mod any longer but it still has remnants and we love mid mod furniture. So we will be putting our orange vintage steelcase sofa and chair in it! Straight from the 60’s
