University Park Traditional is Both Elegant and Livable

Some houses just seem to have it all, and boy, are we lucky when they hit the market. Our Inwood Home of the Week at 3708 Greenbrier is a stunning University Park traditional with transitional influences. It was pretty flawless when it was built in 2013, but the present owners took it a step further, adding their stamp to this 6,717-square-foot home. The result is three stories with five bedrooms, six full and one powder baths, and every part of the home is elegant and livable. It can be hard to combine those two things, but it’s been beautifully executed here.

“It’s a nice balance,” Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s listing agent Amy Detwiler said. “Everyone is doing light and bright, but this update brought in a warm undertone. Even though it’s a large house, it feels very intimate.”

The formals flank the entry in a traditional manner. A wet bar is cleverly located just off the entry between the formals and the family area to easily service both spaces as well as the private study. Now that’s our sort of home office, one close to the champagne! The ceiling is dressed in a marvelous wallpaper. Just imagine, kicking back and staring up when you’re seeking inspiration or relief from some tedious paperwork. It’s like a modern interpretation of the sky.

The open-plan family room features a wall of French doors that overlook the large screened porch and pool. And yes, those screens are the automatic, drop-down kind, of course. More about that later.

The kitchen is one of our favorite spots — gleaming white, comfy barstools, and gorgeous finish-out with tons of storage. Not to mention it has our favorite appliances by SubZero, Wolf, and Bosch. You should be easily enticed to crack open a cookbook or two!

The second floor houses the playroom and all five bedrooms, including the master. “The master closets are amazing in this house,” Detwiler said. “They are knocked out, and his closet is just as nice as hers.”

The third floor is a flexible space used by this family as a music room.

The importance of outdoor living space just keeps growing, and one of the most intelligent things a homeowner can update today is the patio. Adding a screened porch creates usable space in a way the entire family can enjoy. With the advantage of drop-down screens, you can enjoy dining and entertaining outdoors every season.

Homes in University Park are built with families in mind as the school system cannot be beaten. Hyer Elementary is a mere block away, so in nice weather, the kids can walk or bike to school, always a bonus.

Detwiler just listed this beauty a few days ago for $3.69 million.
