Our Inwood House of the Week is a modern home on the range built for a man and his dog. Yes, we’re serious — and we’re dog people at CandysDirt.com, so we’re loving this tale about 84 Vanguard Way in Urban Reserve.

“This was a custom build for a single male client … and his dog,” Scott Marek of Marek Architecture said. “He loves his dog and he thought this lot would be a great place for them both as it opens right into a public park.” Talk about endless Frisbee opportunities.

Yes, that’s a glass pivot door. Seriously, how cool is this?

The entire design was focused on the park and the back of the 2,583-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-full-bathroom and one-half-bath house can be seen from Royal Lane. It’s quite the jaw-dropper and has possibly the most amazing screened porch we’ve ever seen.

“The lot is a crazy pie shape so we came up with a split V design with a courtyard,” Marek said. If you look at the house on Google Earth, you can really appreciate the way Marek took full advantage of the location.

Lee and Sam Hall of Sustainable Structures of Texas built the house in 2015. “They upped the game a lot,” Marek said. “They are very concerned with indoor air quality and did everything to ensure the house was not only certified Indoor airPlus by the EPA but also Certified LEED–Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.”

A window placed almost at ground level is another innovative way to invite light into the home.

“Cheryl Parsa of Art of Living MODERN was the interior designer and crucial in making the spaces come to life, especially the master bathroom,” Marek said
