We were celebrating the jam-packed grand opening of Dallas builder extraordinaire (and to the Stars, literally) Mark Danuser of Tatum Brown Custom Homes last Thursday evening.  Mark is truly one of the best builders not just in Dallas, but the southwest. Of course he is a CandysDirt approved builder, a very selective and exclusive club.  Anyhoo, Mark & company have a big, beautiful new office over on Royal Lane that is almost as pretty as the gorgeous homes he builds. In fact, the interiors look very much like his homes! Earlier, his wife Christine and I went on a treasure hunt of Mark’s current projects –OMG is all I can say! Do not worry, we will bring them to you right here. One on Briarwood in Bluffview had me clutching my heart, doing Lamaze breathing –so gorgeous. Anyhoo, we were discussing the latest trends in home building, what people do and do not want. Here’s what we saw as new trends:

Stunning private baths — some people can drop $50,000 right there, ha, or more!

Floating walnut cabinetry in master bath, powder bath, and even closets…

Dog porches and outdoor wash areas

Durable floor finishes in the garage — like Epoxy coatings. Garages have increasingly become more attractive inside and way more dual purpose. The taller the garage, the more you can store!

House security, light, environment and entertainment systems controlled by iPad, iphones.

Heated master bath floors… even in Texas.

See through fireplaces.

Dual-purpose media and game room combos, maybe even a sofa bed thrown in, maybe a few mirrors to add a third use: exercise room!.

Stand-alone tubs with neck warmers (I am not a stand alone tub fan.)

One thing you may not see much of — the FOYER! Mark Danuser says some of his clients prefer to make the foyer more useful in the home, bringing people right in and into the action. Also trending: one staircase, tucked in a not-so-conspicuous space!
