Randy_2It has been a sad, sad week for the Dallas and Fort Worth real estate markets. It has been a week of tremendous loss of great people who have helped make Dallas and Fort Worth the great real estate cities they are.

Vance Miller was laid to rest on Thursday in Dallas. Then we learned that Randy Stegall, director of Lawyer’s Title in Southlake, had passed away suddenly. He was only 60 years old. Randy was due to teach his popular TREC Legal & Ethics MCE at The Modern in Fort Worth when he collapsed on Wednesday. Randy’s passion was in teaching and thoroughly educating people about the real estate industry, which is exactly what he was doing when he died. A scholarship is currently being set up in Randy’s memory by his colleagues at Lawyer’s Title, who cherished him.

Randy was born December 12, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas to Lillian and Clifford Stegall. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School in 1972, he received his Bachelors degree in English studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Following in his father’s footsteps, he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University Law School in San Antonio in 1980, and assumed his late father’s law practice in that year. He began his studies of real estate and title insurance law during college, when he worked for Commercial Standard Title Company at the Tarrant County Courthouse, performing research assignments and data collection. In the 1980’s, Randy served as the General Counsel for Safeco Land Company in Tarrant County. For more than a decade, Randy served as President of four of the largest title company operations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including Alamo Title, LandAmerica American Title, Lawyers Title Company and Commonwealth Land Title Company. Randy also served as General Counsel for Alamo Title Company. Randy and his wife, Priscilla, own three offices of Lawyers Title serving Southlake, Flower Mound and Fort Worth, as well as The Stegall Firm, a law office in Southlake. Randy was Board Certified in Commercial Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and was also Board Certified in Residential Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He had a rating of “A-V”; the highest possible rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Randy spent 40 years serving the Real Estate community with his hard work, his wisdom and his teaching. As a gifted attorney, Randy used his humble, servant heart to spread his professionalism, generosity, knowledge and his contagious, glowing smile with many. Randy loved to entertain! He had an amazing sense of humor which would fill a classroom. No matter who you were, Randy made you feel special. He had a warm, infectious personality that drew you in. He was an avid and accomplished musician, a devoted husband, a loving father and a faithful friend to all. Randy was preceded in death by his mother Lillian, and father Clifford Stegall.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Stegall; son, Cliff Stegall and his wife, Julie; daughter Kara Ford and husband, Chris; stepson, Trey Walton; stepdaughter, Emily Walton; grandchild, Landon Ford; brother, John Stegall and wife, Patricia, plus many cousins, loved ones and devoted friends.
