Friday Four Hundred: Tudor on Vanderbilt Is History on the Outside, 21st Century on the Inside

Happy Friday! It’s almost time for the weekend, and you know what that means: open houses! (I’ve got some amazing homes coming up for you to scout, plus home tours…) I really think $400,000 is the magic number in Dallas real estate to snag a really great house. Case in point: 5542 Vanderbilt. A picture perfect Tudor built in 1926, snuggled in Greenland Hills with great neighbors, great trees. From the exterior, it’s all pretty painted brick, which will last forever. Inside, the soft sherbert hues and vintage craftsmanship will dazzle you: I am particulary in love with that kitchen that is as loaded (granite, stainless appliances, wine refridge and lots of cabinets) as a home twice the price. You get just under 2,000 square feet, an open-flow floorplan and 9′ ceilings. Hardwoods! — the real McCoy, stained, my fave. There are three large bedrooms total with custom closets, two full baths that have been seriously (not half a**) updated, including a 13 by 16 foot master with a large study off of it. One drawback: the attached garage is only one car, which means your cars will battle for who gets shelter. Let the newest car win! The house also has a newer roof, darling 620 square foot entertainment deck which in this neighborhood, you will use, and a beautifully landscaped .16 acre yard. Listed with darling Forrest Gregg of the Ben Jones Group at Allie Beth Allman and Associates and I have saved you enough to sneak in a purchase celebratory dinner at Fearings: $399,500.

My grandparents were married in front of the fireplace of 5510 Vanderbilt, and my mom grew up there. Those houses are so well-built. You can’t beat the crafmanship. Sweet neighborhood, too, with a nice mix of singles and families.
