Self-made oil and gas billionaire T. Boone Pickens has died, according to multiple reports. Pickens, who founded Mesa Petroleum and BP Capital, was 91 at the time of his death.

Pickens made a name for himself as a businessman and a philanthropist, and was often quoted that his purpose on earth was “to make money and give it away.” All told, Pickens donated about $1 billion to charity in his lifetime, much of that going to his alma mater, Oklahoma State University.

However, the small-town boy from Holdenville, Oklahoma, left several marks on the Texas real estate market, including his incredible Wilson Fuqua-designed Preston Hollow mansion at 9434 Alva Court, which was sold by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate’s Ryan Streiff.

Pickens spent a large amount of his fortune on his Mesa Vista ranch, which was the location of his wedding to his fifth wife, Toni Chapman Brinker. He put the ranch on the market in December of 2017 for $250 million, a paltry sum it seems for a property he developed for nearly half a century. The ranch, which started as a 2,900 acre tract, totals almost 65,000 acres and is located outside of Pampas, Texas.

What will he do next?

We are not talking about 89-year-old oil tycoon and philanthropist T. Boone Pickens. He has his famous, 65,000-square-foot West Texas ranch, Mesa Vista, on the market for $250 million. Who knows, could be sold by now.

Now he has sold his Preston Hollow mansion, listed with Dave Perry-Miller and Ryan Streiff. Selling price was $5 million. Word is that T. Boone is heading for a luxury condo.

In a year of spectacular property listings, this $250 million Texas ranch stands tall. Built as the personal retreat for a legendary oilman, Mesa Vista Ranch is an oasis in the Panhandle.

T. Boone Pickens developed and improved the property over five decades, adding housing, landscaping, and recreational amenities fit for a king, along with restoring grazing lands to pristine condition optimum for wildlife. He’s dialing back and ready to sell. We share details and a feast of photos today on SecondShelters.com.

Is your heart beating faster? There is also a huge plus right here, in what I think is the THEE most important element of real estate: location. This home overlooks Tokalon, which I would arguably call the most beautiful street in Dallas, or certainly one of the top five.

Let us pause here. What ARE the most beautiful streets in Dallas? Tokalon, Beverly, Swiss, Nonesuch, and Rockbrook. But I also love Meadowood, Meadowbrook, DeLoache, Brookview and Cochran Chapel. Vanguard Way? Strait Lane, meh. So flat, so showy. Don’t know, there are so many. We will truly have to post on that topic sometime, so put your best street-thinking caps on. Meantime, 2429 Pickens… (more…)

6929 Casa LomaToni Brinker and T. Boone Pickens – –that is, Mr. and Mrs. Pickens — may be saturating West Texas with romance, but we have a fair share of it in Lakewood. Love is in the air in the newly-renamed Lakewood Hills, or so Lakewood Realtor Scott Carlson tells me. He just closed 6929 Casa Loma Avenue for a record-breaking $799,000 – that’s $234 per foot.

Wowzers!

This Classic Georgian was restructured and redesigned by Angie Link of Transition Homes. Angie has a formula for success and is well known in Lakewood for her classic design and tasteful renovations with open floor plans and beautiful, timeless finish-out, says Scott.

“I sold the home immediately by co-brokering with long time Lakewood resident and agent Kate Looney Walters, who was a delight to work with,” says Scott.

The young, first-time home buyers are engaged to be married this coming July. There was so much joy and excitement with this transaction, says Scott, it was a perfect precursor to Valentine’s Day.

“A new home, bride and groom to be … and a wonderful new neighborhood in Lakewood by LCC and White Rock lake,” says Scott.

Located in Lakewood Schools, Scott says this most sought out neighborhood is going through a major transformation and redevelopment. The small cottages are being bought up by many, many builders. The neighborhood association has even changed it’s name from Gastonwood/Coronado Hills to the new Lakewood Hills! A picturesque walk through the middle of Lakewood County Club golf course to all the new restaurants and the historic Lakewood Theater makes this neighborhood extremely desirable. It is also only mere blocks to the new Lakewood YMCA currently under construction. Lakewood Hills is also located on the new SANTA FE bike trail.

6929 Casa Loma kitchen“Ryan and Lindsey are a beautiful young couple, Ryan is in oil and gas and Lindsey reps wine for her family’s vineyard in Napa,” says Scott. “Angie was gracious enough to allow them to choose some of the final finish out. The home came together beautifully with the young couple love, excitement and happiness.”

Of course, the home will be Ryan’s bachelor pad until the wedding, this being a classic old fashioned, soon-to-be couple they are living apart before their wedding. Quite Refreshing!

“I’m sure they will have an awesome honeymoon!” says Scott. “First thing on the wall: a flat screen tv!!! The rest will be all those registered gifts soon to arrive!”

Not too shabby for a couple’s very first home!6929 Casa Loma wine

These two have got to be the most romantic couple in the world. As you know, Toni Brinker and T. Boone Pickens have been dating, got engaged, and planned a most exclusive wedding for St. Valentine’s Day. The ceremony took place at T. Boone’s Mesa Vista Ranch, a 70,000 acre “Shangri-la” up in the Texas panhandle. Alan Peppard has all the details and photos of the bride and groom AND Mesa Vista:

“The 4:30 p.m. wedding ceremony was held at the ranch’s idyllic chapel that stands in a secluded area on the banks of a small lake. Pickens is the wealthy oracle of energy, philanthropist and natural gas champion. Brinker is the widow of Dallas restaurant entrepreneur Norman Brinker.”

I hear the only way to get up there was by private jet, wonder if Alan got to go! If you will recall, T. Boone has a gorgeous property at 9434 Alva Court that was on the market for $7 million until his beautiful fiancee came into his life. (I have heard there is a million or more in landscaping alone!) Toni Brinker owns the former Neiman Marcus 1998 Showcase house on Strait Lane at North Lindhurst, which was on the market for a bit, a very short bit in January, listed for $5,950,000. Of course, what bride has time to think about selling her home when she’s getting ready to get married?9434-Alva-Ct-exterior 9434-Alva-ct-cabana.png pets

T. Boone seems to be a huge lover of animals, particularly dogs: he has a beautiful tribute to a favored pet in his Alva Court back-yard, and I am loving the dog statutes at Mesa Vista in Alan’s article.

We wish the newlyweds all the happiness in the world!

10235 Strait LaneThis is curious. On January 14, 2014 Allie Beth Allman listed the stupendous Neiman Marcus Showcase House which we all remember so very well  when it was built in 1996. 10,930 square feet of sheer perfection with five bedrooms, six full and three half baths, five fireplaces which are working overtime today I’m sure, rich library, media room, exercise room, guest suite, staff quarters with a kitchen, rear loggia with one of those five fireplaces. Everywhere you look there are acres of gorgeous, tasteful marbles, limestone, oak, maple, mahogany, stucco, red tile. In fact, this home really made most of these finish-out materials so hotly coveted once they were unveiled in the 1998 Neiman Marcus Showcase home. Of course the home is located on one-plus wooded acre. The asking price is, or rather was, $5,950,000.

Maybe it’s a hip pocket?

But now the listing has been cancelled. Which is curious because it is owned by Toni Brinker, who is engaged to T. Boone Pickens, and the game-plan we all thought was for them to move into his home on Alva Court. 10235 Strait Lane is where Toni lived with Norman Brinker, NOT 9410 Alva Court as I had mistakenly thought. Anyhow, wonder if now the lovebirds might be making THIS their new pad?

Or perhaps a second home… for guests?
